Modern War Poem Analysis: 'This is my Throat' and Writing Activities

This is a two-lesson plan for anlaysing the poem ‘This is my Throat’ plus further writing activities.

This modern Ukrainian poem is a change from studying the war poetry from World War I and is something that students can relate to as part of their personal experiences.

This resource includes:

• Teacher’s notes on the poem to aid discussion,
• Discussion points for analysing the poem as a class,
• Paired activity
• A writing task where students create the voice of a character fleeing from conflict.

There are also 5 more creative writing tasks so that teachers can extend the study of the poem and practise different writing styles.
