This is a 21-page book study based on the text “My Strange Shrinking Parents” by Zeno Sworder. This book Is shortlisted on the 2023 CBCA book list for “Picture Book of the Year”.

This is a stunning, heartfelt book about a parent’s love, and just how much a parent will sacrifice for their child.

This is a unit of work, consisting of a range of activities designed to complement using My Strange Shrinking Parents in the classroom. The activities are largely open-ended so would suit any primary-aged group of students.

The unit contains:

  • a comprehension guide, targeting the following skills: literal comprehension, inferential comprehension, figurative language, main idea, comparing and contrasting, cause and effect and author purpose.

  • suggested answers to comprehension questions.

  • two different book reviews (for infants and primary aged students)

  • a range of ten literature circle task cards, designed to be printed and laminated. Tasks are independent with minimal prep. Tasks include a high degree of student choice to promote high engagement.

  • all associated printables and resources

All activities are designed to be independent, so they are perfect for inclusion in Literature Circle rotations.

These are designed to completely independent with NO PREP required. Work is either completed on a device, paper or in student workbooks. * A full-colour set of 10 literature circle activities based on each book. These can be printed and laminated or simply placed on the class screen for students to select from. Literature Circle activities include a range of integrated skills, such as Creative and Practical Arts, history, research skills and more. * All associated printables. The books in this bundle range in age suitability from Early Stage One to Stage 4. Age suitability guides are given for each book. This bundle of work is literally WEEKS of reading work for students. The programs are designed to be open-ended, so you can use them for a whole-class text, or small group work. Comprehension questions can be both verbal or printed for a written response from students.
