New GCSE English Language, Understanding the Skills, AO's and Exams. This series of lessons will guide pupils through AO2 skills (analysis of language and structure) and exam questions (AQA Paper 1 Question 2-3 and Paper 2, Questions 3 ). Pupils are guided through a range of interactive activities, using engaging videos and texts (included) , modelling of skills and the staggered completion of each AO2 exam question. Designed around the original AO/Exam Symmetry Revision Template (also included), allowing for independent reflection and self assessment of progress against the AO and exam questions,
IMPORTANT NOTE: Tailored to AQA spec, however, easily adaptable to new OCR, Edexcel &; WJEC specifications. AO1 - 6 and the skills are universal across all exam boards. Simply adapt the exam question tags in the unit to match the placement of this AO and skill across each exam paper/question depending on the required exam board. For example, for OCR this AO/Skill (analyse language and structure) is covered on Paper 1: Communicating information and ideas, Question 3 and Paper 2 Exploring effects and impact, Question 2 and 3. (5 minutes editing time).
I couldn't find a way to review the bundle I bought but I was disappointed to find that something I thought went through paper 1 and paper 2 individually does not (this appears to be what the bundle is sold as). The AO powerpoints will be useful for revision of both papers being used together but was not what I actually spent £25 for. Also I was disappointed to see that the student ebooks are just basically copied and pasted from the powerpoints. This means that some of the tasks that the students are asked to complete are already completed for them which is obviously not useful to them (this can be seen in the AO1 student book). There is still also a couple of mistakes with words missing that I can't adjust as it's a PDF and apostrophes missing. I found your scheme of work on paper 2 afterwards https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/new-gcse-english-language-paper-2-writers-viewpoints-and-perspectives-reading-full-unit-equality-11220225 which seems to be more what I actually believed the one I was buying to be like. Just quite disappointed as I thought I was saving myself time buying the bundle to discover I'm still going to have to spend hours making my own anyway.

Hi there, thank you for your feedback, we appreciate this. As you have mentioned, this resource, as well as the others within the bundle for this series, address the skills for AO2 (and all other assessment objectives.) These skills apply to both paper 1 and 2, the assessment objectives (AO1 - 6) are the same on both papers (the questions just approach them in varying ways, all of which are modelled and practised with students in these units) and we believe it beneficial for pupils to recognise this and be able to apply the skills across both papers. The resources work through all questions across both papers individually after introducing, modelling and practising each skill in its raw form. This allows pupils to develop their skills and recognise where they need to use them in each exam paper. Other teachers have recognised that this approach is useful both for embedding pupil’s ability with each skill, as well as, saving lots of time in that they can approach the skills (AO1 - 6) holistically, applying them to both exam papers simultaneously rather than having to work through separate exam questions which use exactly the same skills individually.
At CreatEd we believe that it is our duty to teach pupils English and the skills needed to thrive in this subject area. We actively avoid just teaching pupils how to pass exam questions. We believe our resources develop and embed pupils English skills whilst fully supporting them in preparing for the examinations that will ultimately test their ability to use them. This skill based approach, we believe, is far more beneficial and enjoyable than traditional exam drilling approaches which seem to be more common in modern education. Pupils will retain the skills for life, however, they will forget the 'ins and outs' of the exams which test them and therefore this approach will fully prepare students for their current GCSE English exams whilst laying the foundations to become English students at A-level, degree and beyond and ultimately encourage an enjoyment and love for English rather than a resentment for the exams that will define the subject if traditional exam drilling methods are used. We have had lots of feedback praising our 'innovative' and 'creative' approaches to teaching this new specification from various teachers and we would encourage you to adopt a similar 'skills-based approach' with your students for all of the reasons outlined above. Also we apologise for the typos that were present in the original version of this resource, however, the resource has been updated and the errors have now been removed, please accept our apologies! You can re-download the updated version for free simply by hitting ‘download’ again. Also the e-book revision guides are not advertised or described as separate or unique units. They are intended to be used at a later date (post teaching.) Personally, I provided these for my students over the summer break to allow them to recap the units and to embed/revise each skill/exam question independently in their own time, a method which has been highly beneficial given the accessibility of these units on devices such as smart-phones and tablets. Thanks again for your feedback, we really appreciate this.
