In our school we teach each unit of the course in both a chronological (train view) and synthesis (helicopter view). 4 time periods are taught over 3-4 lessons with a review lesson at the end of each mini unit. We mainly use textbooks Heinnemann Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992 and Access to History Civil Rights in the USA 1865-1992.
This lesson is called 'A land of opportunity' and introduces students to the main attitudes towards women 1865-1914 and the key factors that helped or hindered civil rights.
