Partial Products: Academic Notebook Visuals and Response Prompts

This resource includes a variety of prompts to help your students make connections to an area model, and visuals to support their thinking. It can be used as an introductory activity, an informal assessment, an independent activity, a small group activity, and in a progression.

Pages 3-6:
Provides 4 area model visuals using place value tiles and asks the question,
“How does this model show repeated addition?”

Pages 7-10:
Provides the same 4 area model visuals using place value tiles and asks the question, “How is this like an array?”

Pages 11-14:
Provides the same 4 area model visuals using place value tiles and asks the question, “What do I see? What do I wonder What am I learning?”

Page 15-18:
Provides the same 4 area model visuals using place value tiles for schools that use Thinking Maps curriculum (circle map).

Pages 19-23
*More supported: Provides an equation, some of the area model visual and a grid to give children the chance to finish drawing an area model. Children can respond under their drawing with a written response about their drawing. (See thumbnail for sample)
