Introducing the Phase 2 Phonic Sounds PowerPoint Resource!

  • Ideal for the classroom, homeschooling, and tutoring sessions.

Designed for early learners in the reception years, this interactive resource is a comprehensive tool to guide children through mastering the fundamental building blocks of reading and writing. Phase 2 focuses on teaching 19 essential phonetic sounds and honing the skills of blending and segmentation.

The phonetic sounds are divided into five sets, gradually introducing children to the world of letters and their corresponding sounds:

Set 1: s, a, t, p
Set 2: i, n, m, d
Set 3: g, o, c, k
Set 4: ck, e, u, r
Set 5: h, b, f, ff, l, ll, ss

Through engaging visuals and interactive activities, this resource helps children not only recognise and remember these sounds but also practice blending them together to form simple words when reading and segmenting words into individual sounds for accurate spelling.

By the end of Phase 2, many children will have gained the ability to read and spell basic VC (vowel-consonant) and CVC (consonant-vowel-consonant) words, fostering early literacy skills crucial for their educational journey. Opportunities for pupils to write captions and short sentences are built into sessions.

Furthermore, the resource covers common exception words such as “I,” “the,” “to,” “go,” “no,” and “into,” enhancing vocabulary and comprehension.

For optimal learning outcomes, we recommend dedicating one session a day to this resource, ensuring ample time to cover all phonemes and allowing room for revision sessions as needed. Equip your young learners with the foundational skills they need for a strong start in reading and writing with our Phase 2 Phonic Sounds PowerPoint Resource.
