Properties of Ionic and Covalent Compounds Virtual Lab or Internet Assignment

This product can be used as an online virtual lab activity or an internet research assignment on the properties of ionic and covalent compounds. The assessment requires the students to do research on 6 compounds, most of which can be found in their homes. The compounds are either non-polar covalent, polar covalent or ionic compounds.

The students are given detailed instructions on how to fill in each column of their data table, how to make their hypotheses, conclusions, what to reference and what they should include in their theory section. They also have to answer a page of analysis questions based off the data they collect through their internet research. This virtual lab / research activity is 5 pages long, includes a detailed marking rubric and is suitable for a grade 11 chemistry class.
