Miriam Hyman was killed in the “7/7” London bombings on 7th July, 2005. In her memory, The Miriam Hyman Memorial Trust collaborated with teachers to create Miriam’s Vision, units of work for use across the Key Stage 3 curriculum. The unique, high quality lesson plans, written by teachers for teachers, contain an editable powerpoint, worksheets (PDF), video links and guidance notes.
The aim is to promote social cohesion in response to the circumstances of Miriam’s death.
In this unit, ‘Adversity - From Reaction to Reasoned Response,’ concerns transferable life skills such as emotional intelligence, resilience, and rational action in the light of rights and responsibilities.
This unit contains the following sessons:
• Session 1 ‘Who was Miriam Hyman? What happened on 7/7?’ - Introduces Miriam’s story.
• Session 2 ‘From Reaction to Response’- Explores how progress can be made from emotional reaction to rational, constructive response to adversity. Learners are encouraged to explore ways that this might apply to their own lives.
