Students investigate the effect mass has on the efficiency of energy transfer by using different balls to calculate kinetic and potential energy. Students roll the different sized balls down a ramp, set up a data table to collect mass of the balls, height of the ramp and use the distance and time to calculate the velocity. Then they determine the efficiency. This experiment can be used for MYP Science of IGCSE physics. They are given background information, materials, safety and procedure and use this to write their hypothesis, process and evaluate the obtained data (MYP criterion C).
