Phonics tasks require children to find words with the focus sounds for the book before they create their own sentences using the words they found.

Comprehension tasks focus primarily on retrieval skills, developing children’s ability to find and copy information from the text in order to answer written questions. These questions are different to the ones found at the end of the storybook.
