Reading comprehension - Jack and the Jelly beanstalk by Rachael Mortimer

Differentiated to 4 levels. Children read a short extract of text and answer questions based on the text.

1. For confident, independent readers - 7 questions to answer - straight forward recall and more complex inference questions

2. For confident readers - slightly shorter extract of text with 7 questions to answer - recall and inference questions

3. For less confident readers/for an adult to read with the children - 3 questions to answer (recall) with a choice of two possible answers for the children to pick from. Complete the sentence with the correct answer also models how to answer a question in a full sentence.

4. For less confident readers - Four pictures from the beginning of the story. Children can retell the story verbally using the pictures/discuss story with an adult. 3 questions to answer using the pictures to help/ Two possible choices of answer, complete the sentence with the correct answer. Also models how to answer the question in a full sentence.
