This PowerPoint will guide you through how fractions can be represented in various formats. The strategy used in this Powerpoint is, “I do…We do…You do”. This approach means the teacher models a good example and talks through relevant question prompts (notes are included for slides). Then the pupils have a go with the teacher before finally having their own independent go. They repeat this strategy for identifying how to read fractions and then again for how you get a whole. Questions for pupils to do independently are at the end of each section to test understanding.
This lesson walkthrough is designed for children working in Year 5 but could be used as a recap in Year 6 or to introduce the topic in Year 4. A corresponding worksheet is available to purchase which relates to these questions - Identifying Fractions.
