This PowerPoint of 16 slides begins by explaining how ratios always use the lowest whole numbers possible and using the unitary method to divide a quantity in a given ratio. There are then 10 questions on simplifying ratios and 8 questions on dividing in ratio, if students have met ratio previously these may be a quick revision exercise, they are reproduced on a worksheet if you choose to use this or can be answered verbally from the screen. Next are 11 applied questions, a building plan, similar triangles, 5 objects from around my home, 3 from a nearby country park and a school project that my class completed some years ago. All of these questions can be used as classwork or examples or a mix of both as suits your class. One slide shows part of a notice at the entrance to the country park which uses ratio to describe the gradient of recommended walks. The picture here shows the photographs included.
