Science Murder Mystery - Materials and their Properties - States of Matter

Science Murder Mysteries are great fun for both you and the students. For this mystery students will use their knowledge of materials and their properties as well as their states of matter knowledge to investigate who poisoned Andrew Smith. They’ll look at the 5 suspects poisons both using their eyes and under a microscope and compare the poisons to the one found at the crime scene.

They’ll have to figure out how to separate the substances in the water (salt, sugar, etc.) to take a closer look and make their comparisons to figure out which suspect to put in jail!

• Resource pack

• 6 plastic bottles per group

• Petri dishes

• Pipet

• Microscope (or magnifying glasses if not available)

• Salt, sugar, & coffee
