4 classification keys

  • Is it a reptile?
  • Is it an amphibian?
  • Mammals, birds, fish and reptiles
  • mammals, birds, fish, reptiles and amphibians.

Progressive classification keys allow children to build confidence in using them without being overloaded with information.
When I used it with my class, they really struggled to identify reptiles and amphibians (hence why they had their own key).
Focusing on all 5 whilst learning how to use the key was cognitive overload for a lot of my class, so I made the classification using 4 groups for them until they felt more confident.
