Activity Booklet 1:

Problems solving with numbers up to 10 using the characters from the story ‘One is a snail and ten is a crab’.

This booklet gives children an introduction to finding number bonds to 10 through pictorial characters.

Each character represents a number based on the number of legs they have.

1. To begin with the children need to figure out the value of each character (it’s easy, count the legs).

2. Then they can start making numbers using the characters.

3. After that they need to solve number sentences / calculations involving the characters.

4. The next challenge is solving missing number calculations.

5. Finally, an open ended challenge to find all the ways to make 10!
