‘In the jungle lives a __ snake’ - is the outline of this poem format, but the gap for description extends through the whole of this long, twisty snake. This creative writing task is suitable for pupils in and around upper KS1. It offers the secondary - and entertaining - challenge of trying to write at different angles, turning the paper around as need be. The fun of writing in a snake and, beyond that, within a jungle scene, will further motivate young writers.

Jungles & Snakes Picture-Poem Frames (4)
This resource comprises two Jungle poetry frames and two Snake picture-poems, for Yrs 1 and 2 respectively. The Jungle sheets are lavishly illustrated, with gaps in verse lines for descriptive words for animals and similes for jungle. In the Snake picture-poem frames, children can write describing words inside their looping snake. I've used all 4 sheets in my workshops with rewarding results. Black and white PDF files.
