Captain Capital, Cannon Ball Bob, Quiz Master Question Mark and Excitable Exclamation are part of the Punctuation Pirate Gang. They provide a fun context for teaching punctuation from Early Years onwards.

For each of the crew there is an introduction, display poster and a song to the tune of a familiar nursery rhyme. This resource includes two games that can be played as a whole class and follow up activities. The games are editable and can be adapted for your class if need be.

The Captain's Log game can be played on an IWB and involves identifying words that require capital letters in the context of the Captain's Log. In the follow up activity children can edit an entry independently.

The second game requires children to select the correct punctuation to complete a sentence, choosing from a full stop, question mark or exclamation. The follow up activity involves children writing a sentence that requires either a full stop, question mark or exclamation mark.

Polly Apostrophe is also part of the Punctuation Pirate Crew and her resources are also available on TES. They are perfect for supporting the teaching of using apostrophes in contractions.
