SUMMER Bookmarks to Colour
Encourage reading by personalizing bookmarks, get your students excited about describing their favourite book, writing a short story or poem, remembering the times tables with these easy-prep activities.
Maths - stop the ‘summer slide’ by giving them a couple of times table bookmarks to color in and use for their summer reading books and times tables
Reading - talk to them about books for summer holiday reading, ask them to list the titles they are planning to read. Give them blank book review bookmarks to fill in when they have read the book, bring them back after the summer holidays. Alternatively use them when they come back so they can describe their favourite summer book - an easy-prep and fun lesson. These will make a great ‘Books I read in the Summer holidays’ class display
Writing - encourage students to read poems over the summer holidays and write their favourite one to remind them of good poetry. Or get them to write down great vocabulary they hear - we call them ‘WOW’ words - and bring them in after the holidays. Ask students to write a short story and keep this in their book as a marker to encourage reading
These bookmarks are great as stand-alone fun independent activities. Just before the holidays, teachers often look for a quick and easy prep activity that will keep the students occupied but which has an educational content.
The finished bookmarks will also make a lovely Summer or Back-to-School display. The activities are perfect for easy-prep fun early finishers, centres, substitute teaching and Home Education
