This set of lesson plans, resources, and activities is for use with An Angel for Solomon Singer, Fox, Sylvester and the Magic Pebble, and The Polar Express.

These resources can be used for whole group, small group, and independent instruction – which makes these them a smart choice for literacy centers or Reader’s Workshop. Each lesson plan follows the format of a mini lesson and provides an opportunity for students to turn and talk about how they synthesize while reading. Students will also have the opportunity to practice the strategy with a page by page guided “worksheet” and write about their reading with a common core aligned Reader’s notebook prompt.

Here's What You'll Get and Why:

My goal was to make it easy to teach readers how to think about books through the lens of comprehension strategies. This book bundle will help you teach readers how to synthesize while reading popular picture books for third grade readers. You’ll get the following set of resources for each book:

Last, I’ve included an Synthesizing Poster for your classroom library. Hang the poster in your classroom to remind your students what good readers do. You could also make copies of the covers of each of the books used in this book bundle and hang them with the poster to remind students of the work they did while reading each of the books.
