Ellipsis PowerPoint Lesson

This editable, 45-slide PowerPoint lesson clearly explains what the ellipsis is, its functions in writing and how to use ellipses correctly in writing. Many examples are provided. Opportunities are also provided for pupils to explain why the ellipsis has been used. Students are also asked to shorten quotations and compose their own sentences containing ellipses about several striking images.

The PowerPoint also contains a link to a short video about the ellipsis.

Ellipsis Workbook

This resource contains a five page workbook on the punctuation mark - the elipsis. The workbook includes one information/explanation sheet and four worksheets on the elipsis. Tasks include:

shortening quotations using the ellipsis
identifying the purpose of the ellipsis in sentences
adding ellipses in the appropriate place in sentences
composing sentences using ellipses
