This lesson focusses on analyzing Noyes' use of language and how the language is used to create effects. It is aimed at KS3 and is ideal if the class has already read the poem and understand the central ideas and themes (see my other Highwayman lesson for this). All printing is embedded in the slide. I have also attached a pdf of the poem.

Lesson includes:

* DO NOW Activity : recall comprehension quiz on plot and poetic devices.
* Context - information on the poet Alfred Noyes
* Class discussion about the major themes - Love, law and order and women (portrayal)
* Class discussion about the presentation of the Highwayman (anti-hero etc)
* AQA language style question on how language presents character.
* Completing a table as plan for extended language analysis (with teacher model of how to complete)
* Main task: Language analysis activity with Success Criteria
* Plenary - class discussion

This barely saves time as there are few answers and language analysis on this. The context part is reasonable and the resource is attractive. However, not worth the money.
