Following from the success of his longer autobiography The Happiest Refugee, Anh Do’s picture book The Little Refugee captures many of the experiences which shaped his life story in a short and punchy style. This worksheet is designed for an upper-primary or secondary audience and focuses on deconstructing the text and considering how both text and images convey Do’s experiences in this particular medium.

The first page of this four-page worksheet deals with fairly straightforward comprehension, while the subsequent three pages consider different visual and language techniques, including use of colour, symbolism, the simple language choices, story structure, and a consideration of the language techniques used in discussing the journey to Australia.

The worksheet is included in both Word and pdf formats to provide added flexibility.
