This is a task designed to assess students on Topic 2 of the Edexcel GCSE (9-1), it could be set in class, as homework or as cover work. It works as a differentiated consolidation task as the students can choose which grade they are aiming for and work at their own pace.
The task is similar to a badger task, students are asked to explain a range of situations, and use Newton's laws to help them. There is a grade ladder to guide them and for use in assessment of their work, and is best done as consolidation of the topic. The situations are:
• An object sitting stationary on a desk
• A car moving at a constant speed
• A plane accelerating
• A person skydiving.
