Writing intervention used alongside a unit on Holes by Louis Sachar.

The children had already read the first few chapters before starting this (recommended).

Children to identify features of an example story opening.
They then move on to up-leveling a text that includes mistakes.
The children build on skills to then write their own opening.

3 sessions - could take more depending on how deep the work is delved into.
