Varjak Paw Vocabulary Word Search and Early Morning Activities

This pack contains 10 word searches. One word search for each of the first ten chapters of Varjak Paw. Below the word search, children have the opportunity to join the vocabulary to its definition.

In my class, children were asked to find the words in the word search before using skimming and scanning techniques to find them in the relelvant chapter of tehir copy of Varjak Paw.

This is an excellent resource to keep children occupied and focused on Varjak Paw vocabulary in guided reading lessons. However, it’s also a great resource for a teacher as it points out 10 more complex words that will be in each chapter and provides a child friendly definition.

There are also some other activities that we used as busy work or early morning work.

1. Maze (Children find their way trhough the maze to help Varjack Paw find the Monster)
2. Roll a setting description for the Contessa’s Garden.
3. Roll a setting description for the city
4. Three Words (An activity where children are given a relevant topic/theme to the book and have to think of three words that link to it.
