One of the main things that students have to learn for AQA GCSE English Language Paper 2 is how to identify attitudes, viewpoints and perspectives. This can be really tough to do at first, so we’ve made an 8-page resource that specifically focuses on identifying perspectives and inference as an isolated skill. It also gives students the chance to read and practice understanding 19th century nonfiction - key component of the exam.

This resource is provided as a digital + printable PDF and PowerPoint for adaptable teaching and studying - perfect for classrooms, homework, homeschooling and independent study.

Contents:
  • Breakdown of key terms (Attitude, Perspective, Viewpoint)
  • Context + Background of Henry Mayhew and his groundbreaking nonfiction account of Victorian London
  • Overview of the purpose of Mayhew’s nonfiction work “London Labour and The London Poor”
  • An extract from the text: The Little Watercress Girl
  • An extended PEE paragraph writing task, with guidance about how to achieve inferences and implicit meaning analysis
Reasons to love this resource:
  • can be used as a full lesson in class
  • could also be set for homework
  • helps guide students through authorial intentions and how those are present in the subtext of a piece of writing
  • encourages students to see the connection between context and text production
  • provides exposure to 19th century nonfiction writing
  • uses a writer and text (although a different extract) that has previously featured on official AQA English Language exams
