Was Edward VI a successful monarch? An activity designed to start with a good hook with Edward VI trying to be exactly like his father through to some good skills; sorting, making judgements, assessing the importance/usefulness of evidence and structuring written responses. There's also some scope for mini role play. Easily adaptable to go across two lessons if time constraints apply. Worked well with Year 7 and Year 8. Source pack can easily be adapted further although there is scope for choice and differing activities.
With lower ability classes remove some of the harder sources.

A really helpful powerpoint on a topic that is not very much used in textbooks or in lessons for KS3!
