Year 1 Science: Plants: Garden Plants - Identify and Name

This Year 1 science resource helps children to define what a garden plant is, to identify and name 6 common garden plants and to sort plants into simple group of ‘Garden’ and ‘NOT Garden’. Children will learn useful topic-related words, be posed interesting questions (Think-lets), follow highly structured teaching slides (Teach-lets) about the 6 common garden plants and have their scientific knowledge and understanding assessed throughout (Quiz-lets).

This resource provides 3 increasingly difficult challenges. The easier challenge asks children to complete sentences about garden plants (useful words given), the moderate challenge asks children to match 6 names to 6 images of common garden plants, and the harder challenge asks children to sort plants into two simple groups of ‘Garden’ and ‘NOT Garden’. All useful words, visual image prompts and answers are provided.
