Hi all,

Here's Monday's PowerPoint ready if you want it.

Hopefully, you'll be practising the 3 x table with your class and hopefully, it's working?!
If not, try this...

I write it out on my whiteboard and go through it by chanting with the children - one three is three, two threes are six etc., pointing with my finger as I go.

Then I rub the answer '3'off the board (Usually saying "We don't need that one!") and repeat the chanting.

Next, I'll rub out the answer '6' and repeat the chanting and be pointing with my finger.

Then, I'll randomly shout out some of them such as " 2 threes", pointing at where the answer should be. The children will then shout the answer back to me. You can do this to all of the times table even if the answer is still on the board, it'll still help the children to remember them.

You'll notice that the children are still looking at the answer even though it's not there - this is good!!!
It means they're using their visual memory to remember it and reinforcing it so that it stays in their long-term memory.

Just keep repeating the process through the week(s) until they get it. 6x, 7x, 8x & 9x of any table are always difficult for them to remember, but they will get it in time.

Hope that helps, it has worked for me for years!

Many thanks,
Emlo
