This lesson takes students through how the early settlements were chosen and the environmental influencing factors. Students have to do a decision making exercise where they choose the best site as early settlers from 4 options. This lesson received an outstanding under the new ofsted criteria.

Two assessment lessons on FairTrade. One looks at re-capping what they have learnt about FairTrade and looking at ideas of sustainable development. The other moves on to look at peer assessing each others work, with an example of a pupils work to look at.

A whole lesson on 4 figure grid references. The group activity is based around the OS maps that my school receives of our local area so you can change these questions if you would like to do it for your local area. Get them to do it with whiteboards and they will love the competition!

This lesson allows students to build on the skills they acquired with 4 figure grid referencing. There is another group activity using the local OS maps (please change for your area). The 'how confident are you&' gets students post-it note their name on the tree to show where they have climbed to in the lesson.

Lots of interesting activities relating to map symbols. One of the worksheets is particularly good for higher ability students as they have to use grid references also. Students love the mystery activity in my experience.

An activity which gets students looking at the advantages and disadvantages of hard engineering techniques along the coast. With higher ability students I also get them to think about sustainability. You can stick the fact sheets in the PowerPoint around the class room or get them to pass them from group to group.\nThe table also has a differentiated version too.
