This baseline test is suitable to quickly get information of the proficiency level of a potential EAL student to inform your teaching. It consists of 100 multiple choice (3) questions. The number of correct answers will inform about your student’s proficiency level (new to English / early acquisition / developing competence / competent / fluent). The test is divided in 3 sections. Section A tests the general understanding of English, e.g. interactions with a question and having to choose the best answer (conventionalisms). Section B purely tests the learners’ grammatical knowledge (verbs (participles, passive voice, collocations, etc) Resource includes: baseline test (100 questions) answer key proficiency bands

A powerpoint I created to help my year 8 and year 9 groups practise verb tenses before the summer exams. Year 8 (second year): present, preterite and near future year 9 (third year): present, preterite, near and simple future. this resource does not include verb endings, but tables for students to fill in and practise verb conjugations in their 6 forms (there are some common irregulars). Answers included for them to work independently and check their own answers. Ppt includes a thinking quilts activity where students will be identifying these tenses in use, as well as typical time markers to go with each tense.
