The Science Behind The Christmas Tree
This literacy based resource focuses on the genetics behind the Christmas tree allowing teachers to revise the basics of the cell and DNA whilst bringing literacy into science.
The resource also touches on other biology topics such as** adaptations** and sustainability

Renewable and non renewable electricity generation
A complete set of resources to teach an interactive student led lesson on the topic of electricity generation.
Resources include:
A cut and stick activity showing the steps of generating electricity in a fossil fuel powered station
A sorting activity to allow students to recognise the difference between renewable and non-renewable energy resources
A group work, market place style activity for students to visit four different stations and gather information on different methods of generating electricity

Climate change COP 26 Comprehension
These resources are designed to allow teachers to provide a summary of the **COP26 **summit to their students.
Two options of “do now” activities are available in the form of
**- a wordsearch
a crossword**
(answers are included for both)
For the main body of the lesson is a comprehension in the form of a fictional newspaper “The Environmental Times.”
This provides detailed, student friendly summaries of the COP26 summit and the impact it will have.
The two page broadsheet can be printed and** analysed** as a whole class activity or set as independent learning.
Two styles of questions are included to assess learning of the lesson.

Solar system comprehension
This resource is ideal to be used to teach Junior Cycle Science
E an S 3: Students should be able to interpret data to compare the Earth with other planets and moons in the solar system, with respect to properties including mass, gravity, size, and composition.
A set of 8 fact literacy fact sheets on the planets in our solar system. These
are designed to be printed and displayed around a room/corridor/sports hall.
Students then visit the sheets in order to extract the data on each of the 8 planets.
Groupwork
Students could be split into groups with each group looking at a different data set. Alternatively each member of the group could be tasked with finding specific information.
The question sheet allows students to interpret the data on the fact sheets and use it to compare Earth with other planets in our solar system.
Comparisons looked at include density, diameter, day length, year length, composition and temperature.
All facts are taken from the NASA website and are listed as correct as of November 2021.
