Teaching slides break down the numbers into small chunks of ten at a time so teachers can use whatever part of the presentation suits the needs of their students

There are slides with numbers in digit format to play a ‘splat’ game or ‘Frappez les Nombres!’ where the teacher calls out a French number and children compete in threes to hit the number on the whiteboard (if you’re not using a touchscreen)
Mental Math calculations
8 rounds of interactive Hexagons game, where teams compete to make a trail across the screen by calling out French numbers. Rounds for 0-40, 0-100, and 0-1000. Versions with numbers in digit format and also with French words.
12 rounds of interactive Reveal the Picture game, where teams must say numbers in French to remove boxes from the grid, revealing images with numbers located somewhere within them. The last four rounds feature 3-digit numbers for a greater challenge.
Slides for a bingo game on numbers from 60 to 100. Students can make their own grid and choose numbers. Shuffle the slides before playing subsequent games.

These are Key Stage 2 (KS2) Year 5 and Year 6 (Y5 / Y6) place value printable activities for numbers up to 6 and 7 digit develop understanding of place value, while practising mental maths. There are 72 self-checking maths trails (36 up to 6 digit numbers and 36 up to 7 digit numbers) to make into reusable activity boards or simply print as worksheets (versions also included without the final answer). Ideal as main lesson tasks, starters, early finishers, home learning, homework and revision. PDF format. (In Scotland, this suits Second Level Maths, Primary 6 and 7.)
A fun activity that can be used as a competitive game or an individual challenge
Differentiation: In addition to there being 2 different levels here (up to 6 or 7 digits), the last 6 trails in each set (trails 31-36) are a little less challenging than the first 30, helping less able students to experience success without drawing attention to the level
Print as many A4 boards as you require (printing on card recommended), laminate for regular use and have students complete trails with whiteboard pens
Consider printing and/or laminating back-to-back to save resources
A5 worksheet versions of the trails (two trails per A4 page) are included with the answer removed, which you might want to use for classwork or homework without laminating
Separate final answer key versions included (for use with worksheet versions)
Full answer versions also included for speedy checking by student or teacher if required
Alternatively students could use a calculator to help them see where they have gone wrong.
Students love using these trails, fixing any errors for themselves. They could work in pairs or individually and choose whether to time themselves or race against their friends.
How do they work? The trails each feature 12 addition and subtraction calculations (practising a variety of vocabulary for the operations) to consolidate place value. A start and end number are printed on each card, so students can work from left to right down the rows, adding and subtracting different size numbers, until they reach the end, where they can check if they arrived at the correct final number.

BINGO / LOTTO:
Includes simple number match and mental maths versions. 2 sets of 6 boards for each of 0-40 and 0-100 – one set features the French number word, the other less challenging version features digits. Print and laminate as required. Both the 0-40 and 0-100 games also have two sets of bingo cards each – French mental maths versions or French number word versions. Great for differentiation - for a medium level of challenge you could have groups using the digit boards with the mental maths calculation cards.
FOUR IN A ROW:
6 French Maths Four in a Row game boards at 2 levels. Great starter, early finisher or group activities for both French and Maths lessons. Most questions can be answered using mental strategies. All four operations used.
4 different game boards for Maths involving numbers from 0 to 100 and generally more challenging Maths questions.
2 different game boards for Maths involving numbers from 0 to 40 with generally simpler Maths questions.
Full answer versions included for at-a-glance checking by students or teacher. BLACK AND WHITE versions of all boards included too.
Laminate and use again. Students work as pairs against pairs or one against one to get four correct answers in a row. Roll dice to find which column to choose a calculation from (the columns are numbered 1-6). If there are no questions left in the one they've rolled, skip a go or roll again. Use a different coloured whiteboard pen to record answers or add an initial or symbol if using the same colour. I recommend printing in A3 but it will work fine in A4 too.

Ideal starter mental maths tests or quizzes. NO PREP! This pack contains 15 Mental Arithmetic PowerPoint Speed Tests, originally designed for Upper Key Stage 2 (KS2) - Y5 and Y6 (Primary 6 and 7 and other equivalents) but might also suit some early KS3 classes for revision and consolidation. They could be used as part of SATs preparation too. UPDATE: Now included in PDF versions as well as the original PowerPoints. Money calculations are in UK Pounds, but dollar versions of all resources are also included.
Students enjoy trying to beat their previous best score. These informal tests are split across 3 files and are designed to be shown on the whiteboard, with children recording answers in jotters or on paper. In each quiz there’s one question to a slide so children can focus on it for a few seconds before the next one comes up. The question slides are plain and uncluttered to minimise distractions. You can run the PowerPoint presentation on a timer if you wish - alternatively click it on yourself, perhaps allowing a little longer for more challenging questions. Each test features 20 calculations involving a variety of mathematical skills and knowledge. Alternatively, use the PDF versions.
At the end of each test, there follows the same 20 slides repeated, with the answer added clearly. Students can mark their own or a partner’s work to cut down on your workload. If short of time, you can whizz through the answers but each answer appearing with its question like this allows for important discussions about strategies.
Concepts include: Addition, Subtraction, Multiplication and Division, Times Tables, Doubling and Halving, Negative Numbers, Multiplying and Dividing by 10 and 100, Place Value, Decimals, Percentages, Fractions, Money, Measure (including Area and Perimeter, Time, Length), Angles.
The PowerPoint files are editable should you wish to amend any wording or change the odd question to better suit your class.
Differentiation: I’ve called this Set A rather than used any other identifier to help facilitate the use of my Set B (originally designed for Lower Key Stage 2) with lower ability children within the same class without children being aware of the age level of the questions. Four in a Row: 2 boards. Print and laminate. First to get 4 in a row - vertically, horizontally or diagonally - wins. Students use dry-wipe pens.
Board Game: Practice of 1st and 3rd person sentences using the adjectives. Print and laminate. Answer key included for student checking.
Loop Game: Instead of ‘I Have…Who Has?’, this is a ‘Je suis…Qui est…?’ game. Distribute among players. First player reads aloud the right side of their card, stating the word under the picture in English. Others check if they have the matching French word, and so on.
Grid Game: 6 sets of 2 identical cards. Best if laminated, with students using dry-wipe pens. Play in a similar way to traditional Battleships.
Bingo / Noughts and Crosses: 16 cards for a group game of Bingo in pairs or Noughts and Crosses / Tic Tac Toe (with students taking it in turns to say aloud a word in French from their card). If cards are laminated, students could use a dry-wipe pen.

One set features the date and month, the other (which has different dates) also includes the day. This game works especially well as a fun activity to teach the difference between the two ways of answering the question Quelle est la date? (What is the date?), which depends on whether you are including the day:
C'est samedi cinq avril
C'est le cinq avril
Another teaching point reinforced with this activity is the fact that days and months do not start with capital letters in French.
Print and laminate the sets for repeated use. There is no start or end card in either set; they are continuous loops so you can start wherever you want.

A low-prep giant Roald Dahl crossword quiz puzzle, designed to be completed in groups, featuring 110 quiz style clues related to almost all Dahl's children's stories and poetry books and a few related to the writer's life. Great for Roald Dahl Day (September 13th), special reading events, end or start of term fun, at the end of a Roald Dahl author study or just as a Dahl celebration because almost all children love this author and his quirky characters! Why not use it as an early finisher activity, to be completed over several lessons? Suits Key Stage 2 (KS2) - Year 5 / Year 6 (Y5 / Y6) especially or early KS3 - Year 7 (Y7)and equivalents.

This could be used for classwork, fun early finisher activities, revision, homework tasks etc. There are two 0-31 crosswords, two 0-61 crosswords and two 0-100 crosswords, with all six puzzles coming in these three versions:
A 1-star version for lower ability / younger students / students less experienced in French. This has number clues in English and a French wordbank containing all the answers in alphabetical order
A 2-star middle ability version (as above but with no wordbank)
A 3-star more challenging version with mental maths clues in French
All puzzles come with the solution to enable easy marking
The mental maths clues use the following words for the four operations:

15 informal tests split across 3 PowerPoints, designed to be shown on the whiteboard with children recording answers on paper
One question to a slide allows students to focus for a few seconds before the next one comes up
The question slides are plain and uncluttered to minimise distractions
Run the PowerPoint presentation on a timer or click it on yourself, perhaps allowing a little longer for more challenging questions
Each test features 20 questions involving a variety of mathematical skills
At the end of each test, the same 20 slides are repeated, with the answer added clearly
Children can mark their own or a partner’s work to reduce your workload
If short of time, whizz through the answers but the idea of each answer appearing with its question like this is that it allows for important discussions about strategies

There are 3 PDF files in the Zip file, one with UK English spelling versions, one with US spelling, and a Canadian version. The Canadian version also has the word ‘marron’ to describe brown eyes replaced with ‘bruns’ in worksheet 7, the only place where this is relevant. Many other French speakers use ‘marron’, which is used on the version of worksheet 7 in the other files.

5 KS2 Year 4, 5 or 6 spelling games to make learning about homophones and near homophones fun. These ‘splat’ SPaG activities include the following words that are often muddled up and misspelled:

The games revolve around a total of 256 sentences which model a variety of structures so that while children are learning about the spelling of commonly confused words they are also learning about how to use a range of openers, connectives, sub-clauses etc to construct interesting sentences. Many sentences are silly to further engage children!
It’s a challenge to make SPaG work active and engaging, rather than relying solely on worksheets and these homophones splat games are ideal for fun consolidation during the main part of SPaG lessons or can be used as purposeful early finisher and/or starter activities. If you print and laminate them all, children could self-select the homophones they need to practise.
It is best played in small groups, where children each take a sentence card which features 8 sentences with a homophone word in it (homophone words are printed in bold). Children take it in turns to read a sentence from their card while the others compete to splat the correct homophone flashcard (homophone flashcards are included in black and white as well as fun colour ‘explosion’ style cards so you can choose which to print). The first student to hit the correct homophone word scores a point. Students could lose a point for hitting the wrong word to stop them being tempted to guess early.
The PowerPoint includes a slide for each game and features the homophone words for splatting as a whole class version on a ‘splattable’ whiteboard, should you so wish.

Loop Cards: 18 words in a continuous loop. Complete as a domino activity or orally as a group or whole class.

Differentiation: all worksheets other than the WANTED poster come in one-and two-star versions, with one-star being for lower ability, younger, or less experienced students. Hidden word puzzle - students work individually or in pairs or small groups to find errors in French physical descriptions phrases. When they find one, they circle the letter printed in the same box. At the end they put together the circled letters to complete the phrase at the bottom of the page.
Crossword puzzle - the clues involve students filling in the blanks in French physical description phrases. Included with and without a word bank for support. An extra challenge involves students using letters from the shaded boxes to complete a linked phrase. You can print or display the answer key for student self-checking if required.
