A scheme of work and powerpoints to ensure students understand popular music and the key features as well as improving their ensemble performance.
Stand By Me is used as the prime example however this can also be mashed up with Just the Way You Are and Beautiful Girls.
Band parts for the following instruments are available and differentiated into multiple tasks: drum-kit, keyboard (riff and chords), ukulele, bass guitar, lyrics.
Sibelius files are also available so you can adapt the music to suit your needs.
This scheme of work can last up to 7 weeks and also includes the option of adding in the middle 8 or student’s composing their own.
Resources used to introduce rhythm to GCSE students (could be used with year 9 key stage 3).
This includes performance, composition and listening all based around rhythm skills only - with a short introduction to structure and texture. This can then be extended to look at melody.
All resources are differentiated with set tasks for different levels of students and begins with writing rhythms, developing them using specific development methods, performing a rhythmic piece as an ensemble and then composing a similar piece in groups.
Homework individual composition is also attached as well as a feedback lesson.

All tasks are differentiated with success criteria and stretch and challenge activities.
This can take up to 5 hour long lessons (includes performance, analysis, homework tasks and extended essay).
A pp detailing all analysis for the Afro Celt set work. Includes differentiated success criteria and questions that encourage students to be more independent with analysis (and answers) *more difficult questions are in pink. Analysed in sections and broken down by musical elements - all annotations to be added directly to the score. Performance tasks are included (and differentiated) and students would use the score to complete it.
A summary grid is also included and links to the fusion genre. Possible listening questions are on the bottom of the pp.
An extended answer pp is also included where links are made to another fusion piece. Possible answers are given for both pieces for each musical element and it walks the students through completing sections of the essay.
This is a set of 4 lessons and an extra summary (homework or classwork) to support the advance information for Eduqas Section B of Bach’s Badinerie.
The series of lessons includes facts required for section B as well as comparison and contrast to section A. There is answers throughout as well as differentiation and colour coded facts depending on target grade.

A 10 week scheme of work which is fully differentiated. It focuses on 6 western classical composers and encourages students to perform famous motifs as well as using these pieces as a stimulus to compose their own pieces.
Glossaries and a end of unit listening test with answers is also available as well as a tracking sheet where students can keep a track of all tasks they have completed and at what level.
This series of 5 or more lessons aims to analyse the full movement of the Bach set work for Edexcel GCSE Music. All powerpoints attached have differentiated success criteria and answers for all questions which ask students to analyse different features. The series of lessons begins with context of Bach and the Baroque period and then focuses on analysing through playing. There are also extended question (4/5 marks) added into the powerpoints to test learning as you go.
There is also a Sibelius 6 files (please ask if you would like this converting lower) with all of the instrumental parts for section A (you can then use this as a backing track to perform to and change the tempo where necessary, all parts can then be transposed and printed as you require for your class).
There is also a fully annotated score attached.

I am not going to claim they are grade 9 because the grade boundaries are volatile but all the essays are coherent, well-argued responses with thoughtful and often perceptive exploration of methods, word choices and writer’s wider ideas.
