These nine SATs style assessments are ideal to use after reading each of the nine chapters of the book in guided reading or English. Example text demonstrating dialogue writing with direct speech based on the historical novel Street Child by Berlie Doherty, set in Victorian London. The model text contains a conversation between Jim’s sisters, Emily and Lizzie, about the break-up of their family. Three differentiated versions of the text have been included for different ability levels. The model text can be used as a WAGOLL to examine using the differentiated Feature Find worksheets (answers included) before children attempt their own dialogue writing based on the book. Pupils examine the personality of Ada and other characters in this differentiated character trait matching exercise. Pupils match the main characters from Children of the Benin Kingdom by Dinah Orji with character traits and evidence from the text. The quotes from the text have been provided, alongside the character traits and definitions. This resource has been differentiated three ways: • Higher ability: 10 characters, quotes and character traits have been provided. • Middle ability: 10 characters, quotes and character traits with their definitions have been provided. • Lower ability: 7 characters, quotes and character traits with their definitions have been provided. Example playscript based on Chapter 6 of the children’s novel Stig of the Dump by Clive King. This exemplar playscript is perfect to use as a WAGOLL when studying Chapter 6 of Stig of the Dump when Barney and Stig stop the thieves. The model playscript comes with a feature identification worksheet for children to complete, plus an answer sheet that can be uploaded for remote learning or shared in class. After identifying the features, pupils can write their own playscript using an extract from the book (also included) by either re-writing the model text or continuing the script provided.
