A set of three expanded noun phrase activities and a noun phrase poster, all linked to Chapter 1 of The Iron Man (also known as The Iron Giant) by Ted Hughes. These resources develop pupils’ understanding of grammar, creative writing skills and engagement with the novel. The following resources are included in the pack: • Noun Phrase Building Activity • Noun Phrase Identifying Handout • Noun Phrase Identifying Handout Answers • Noun Phrase Writing Activity • Noun Phrase Poster Noun Phrase Building Activity In pairs or small groups, pupils build expanded noun phrases using the cards provided. Two versions of the cards are supplied: a colour version, and a more challenging black and white version. Blank cards are supplied for pupils to change or build on the expanded noun phrases they have completed, or to create their own expanded noun phrases as an extension activity. Noun Phrase Identifying Handout Pupils identify the different parts of expanded noun phrases, and find the noun phrases in sentences, with activities getting increasingly more challenging.
