What are the different opinions on how the World was created? (Creation & Covenant)
This lesson covers:
Why are some people happy with what it says in the Bible?
Why do some people not believe that God created the World?
Can you believe in Science and God?
We started teaching the New Catholic RE Curriculum Directory in 2022. So this lesson is based on the draft and my Department Leads interpretation of what we needed to include in each lesson.
This lesson runs over two lessons easily as I don’t like to rush it. It contains the Big Bang Theory (What is it? Who discovered it? What evidence is there to support it?), Evolution (What is it? What Charles Darwin found? What evidence is there to support it?) and the Pope Francis view on Creation and Science.
Why do some people think Creation is a story? (Creation & Covenant)
This lesson covers:
What are symbols?
What is a symbolic story?
What symbols are found in Genesis 1 to 3?
We started teaching the New Catholic RE Curriculum Directory in 2022. So this lesson is based on the draft and my Department Leads interpretation of what we needed to include in each lesson.
Looks at the difference between literal truths and symbolic truths, the benefits of telling a story and looks at the symbolic truths found in Genesis.
What does Genesis 2 and 3 teach us about humans?
This lesson covers:
Why are humans different from animals?
Why are humans a bit like God?
Why is every human special?
We started teaching the New Catholic RE Curriculum Directory in 2022. So this lesson is based on the draft and my Department Leads interpretation of what we needed to include in each lesson.
Looks at imago dei, and human dignity. Starts to look at whether we are good stewards?
What does Genesis 1 teach us about God? (Creation & Covenant)
This lesson covers:
Is God the start of everything?
Is God inside and throughout everything?
Is God above and outside of everything?
We started teaching the New Catholic RE Curriculum Directory in 2022. So this lesson is based on the draft and my Department Leads interpretation of what we needed to include in each lesson.
Looks at creation ex-nihilo, God as immanent and God as transcendent.
What happened at Creation? (Creation & Covenant)
Before I do this lesson, I would usually have done a lesson on Genesis 1 and made a story board.
This lesson covers:
How did God make the world?
Who were the first humans?
What was the first sin?
There is a draw the line starter, a reading task, a plenary.
We started teaching the New Catholic RE Curriculum Directory in 2022. So this lesson is based on the draft and my Department Leads interpretation of what we needed to include in each lesson.
It includes starter, recap tasks, a reading tasks and plenary.
Who is God? (Creation and Covenant)
This lesson includes a crossword starter and frayer models that begin to address the words revelation and God.
Intention is to cover…
What is ‘revelation’?
What is ‘God’?
What if we don’t understand God?
We started teaching the New Catholic RE Curriculum Directory in 2022. So this lesson is based on the draft and my Department Leads interpretation of what we needed to include in each lesson.
There is a lot (too much) packed into the lesson, but it is a good introduction to revelation, God and the characteristics of God and what the Catholic Church teaches about not understanding God.
