PRIMARY FRENCH KS3 FRENCH YEAR 7 FRENCH CHRISTMAS WORDS & PICTURES A great French Christmas picture & vocabulary reference resource for younger learners of French. It works well when students keep them carefully in learning files or folders for current and future reference. They also work well printed double-sided and laminated for small-group work in class.
There are 20 common French Christmas words with pictures that I’ve found ideal for children learning French. I’ve used a blend of masculine and feminine nouns, definite article and indefinite article and there are some plurals too. I use this to stimulate discussion about articles, the concept of gender in French (which is often quite contrary to some learners’ first language, such as English), and forming the plural in French. It’s also great for promoting discussion about Christmas traditions and practices in France and French regions, as well as other French-speaking countries, comparing them to other Christmas customs with which students are familiar. Over time, I encourage students to add to the list - by the end of their French learning programme, they’ll have a comprehensive French Christmas vocabulary bank.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - Christmas colours (which I tend to use as part of a French Christmas display), and blackline snow.

PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 SPANISH CHRISTMAS WORD SEARCH FREEBIE Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in Spanish, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This freebie Spanish Christmas word search features fourteen common Spanish Christmas words, which helps to develop students’ awareness of some Spanish Christmas vocabulary and customs, such as la Nochebuena and el turrón. I use this as a prompt to stimulate discussion about Spanish Christmas practices and traditions, and we talk about what students know about other Christmas traditions around the world. The nouns feature masculine and feminine, singular and plural and both definite and indefinite articles, which is a great way of working on and consolidating those grammatical concepts too.
There is an answer key for each word search, so that students can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. Answer keys are absolutely essential for me, as they provide students with an additional opportunity to engage with language, help them develop more independence in their learning, and they genuinely enjoy ‘correcting’ each others’ work - additionally, they’re a great teacher time-saver, which is always a bonus! The word searches are in landscape format, as this mirrors the common direction of reading from left to right for speakers of English as a first or home language, facilitating their engagement with the activity.

Mots Cachés are a simple and effective way of encouraging students to engage with the written word in French, refreshing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. It focuses on 25 French Christmas words, which will also help to develop students’ awareness of some***Francophone Christmas traditions and figures***, such as Saint Nicholas and Père Fouettard, which is translated as Father Fouettard rather than Whipping Father.
The vocabulary is really useful for stimulating discussion about***French Christmas practices and customs***. Students also enjoy talking about other Christmas traditions they know or follow. The vocabulary list features the definite article, though some grids also have the indefinite article for additional challenge.
There are 5 French to French grids, where students are prompted with the French words, and look for them in French in the grid. For additional consolidation, each grid also features an English word list to complete. There are also 5 English to French grids, where the prompts are given in English. Students look for the French translation in the grid. They also write the French translation of the English word.
There is an answer grid for each word search, so that students can check their answers, or use for a little extra help if they need it. The answer keys help them develop independence in their learning, and also provide them with an additional opportunity to engage with the French vocabulary. The word searches and answer keys are in landscape format, with arrows indicating in which direction the individual words are located. There is an alphabetical French-English Christmas vocabulary list which students find really helpful. The word searches are useful in a range of learning contexts - as starters, refreshers, finishers, fun-time fillers and for sub / cover lessons at any time during the Christmas / Holiday season.

This kind of classroom decor provides a real learning opportunity in geography class, and this set is also a great visual prompt when you are discussing world geography in general, and Africa in particular. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters help students develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Africa and its geography. It's useful to show students a clear map of Africa, so that students can visualise the location of each country and capital city, not only as an individual location with Africa, but also as a location in relation to other African countries and capital cities.
There are two formats to choose from - Africa map background or plain without frame. I laminate my classroom learning decor, even though it's extra prep time and expense. The posters display better, as flashcards they're a lot easier to manipulate, and they do remain in excellent condition for years, so you'll be able to recycle them many times.
The posters work just as well in the world languages classroom as well as the geography classroom, aligning learning between language and knowledge of the world.

GEOGRAPHY AFRICA COUNTRIES, CAPITAL CITIES & FLAGS GAMES CARDS
NEWLY-REVISED AND UPDATED RESOURCE COMING SOON - THIS PRODUCT IS CURRENTLY NOT FOR PURCHASE
perfect for developing knowledge and locational understanding of Africa the game cards provide great learning opportunities for any appropriate age group, at any time of the school year! Students can develop their knowledge of the geography of Africa in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. There are 54 flag cards, and 54 country with capital city cards, featuring all African countries, capital cities and flags. There are also detachable country, capital cities and country & capitals together labels that students use to label the flags - labeling the flags with their respective countries and capitals is a really good way of consolidating learning.
There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the games help them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of Africa, its capital cities, and its flags. The cards use the current formal names of countries, such as Gabonese Republic, and I’ve used the more common Gabon on the labels, as I’ve found that this helps learners familiarize themselves with both names.
There is a country, capital city and flag reference list of all countries and capitals, which students find useful to read through before playing - allow them only 60 seconds on a timer to really focus their reading and increase the sense of competition if you are playing competitive team games! It can also be used as a year-round reference resource, which students can file in their workbooks or learning folders. Laminate the cards and reference sheets if you can - you will be able to use them for years to come. The games work best if played regularly and frequently, as this consolidates learning really successfully, and students love to see if they can beat their own time record.
Laminate the cards, labels and reference sheets if you can - it’s definitely a lot of prep, but it’s well worth it, as not only are the materials far more learner-friendly, they also last for absolutely years.

EUROPE GENERAL KNOWLEDGE QUIZ
Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use.
This general knowledge quiz focuses on Europe. Students can broaden and develop their knowledge of Europe in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The quizzes work well as a whole-group team quiz, and are also perfect for pair or small-group activities.
The quizzes are for older students, who have a more developed understanding, knowledge and awareness of the world. Some responses will be generally well-known to students, others less so, as the questions range from basic general knowledge to more specialized factual knowledge. This ensures that the activity is equally about reflecting on what students know, as it is about what they can learn. In this way, the quizzes aim not only to consolidate existing knowledge, but also to enable students to learn more about Europe. The questions and answers also provide a comprehensive framework for further exploration of Europe, which both broadens and enriches the learning experience.
I generally give students multiple opportunities over the school year to play the quizzes. Before we play, I always screen a clear map of Europe, to ensure that students can visualize it in its entirety, the location of individual countries within it, and in relation to each other. This provides an important learning context for students. The quiz opens with general questions about Europe, and then moves on to questions about a range of individual European countries.
There are 80 questions across two challenges:
Challenge 1: 56 multiple-choice questions, with four response options to choose from. The correct response is in capital letters.
Challenge 2: 24 questions in TRUE / FALSE format. Where the answer is false, students should additionally give the correct response. Some of these questions align with the topics / themes in Challenge 1, but some address entirely different ones. I usually work with this challenge after Challenge 1, as I’ve found that it maximises opportunity for learning.
The questions address and topics such as: music and the Arts; daily life; famous figures; geography; history; landmarks; language and linguistics; literature; politics; science; social history; society
This is the General Knowledge Europe Quiz edition of the European Day of Languages Europe Quiz #1 - please ensure you haven’t already purchased that edition.
Laminate the cards if you can - they are easier to manipulate, and remain in excellent condition for years.

PRIMARY FRENCH CHRISTMAS KS3 FRENCH CHRISTMAS BINGO GAMES
Files are non-editable in a zipped format. This product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed in any way outside your own classroom. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use carefully.
Ideal multi-skill language learning activity for developing listening, speaking, reading, writing and spelling skills for French language learners of all ages - in my experience, adult learners really enjoy a few competitive games of bingo too! I’ve described the games as not grade-specific, as the general goal for me is not to learn a lot of French Christmas vocabulary as such, but to work quite specifically on French language skills development.
There are 100 grids in total, in both colour & BW. The color grids definitely look really good, but can prove expensive to prep - I have sets that I’ve laminated, and students use wipe-free pens, so that the grids can be used many times. Younger learners do tend to prefer the BW grids, taking some additional time to colour them in themselves. I often combine that activity with revision of colours, which can work really well too. The games are designed for players to cross off all the words or pictures on their grids in order to win the game.
This set comprises the following:
40 picture-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages) You can give students a random selection of pages, with students selecting the order of grids they play from. You can also cut out the grids, and place them in a small bowl or similar object on tables. Students then select grids randomly from the bowl. For additional challenge, students can play all four grids in a single game. Colour and BW
40 words & pictures bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages) Colour & BW
10 picture-only 30-square grids (A4 portrait format) Distribute the grids among students, several grids per student, which they choose randomly for every game. There should be several winners per game, depending on the size of the group. Colour & B&W
10 words & pictures 30-square grids (A4 portrait format) Colour & B&W
Calling card, featuring 32 French Christmas words. Print or photocopy double-sided to minimise prep. There are 8 check columns per page, so that you can really get the most from each card - call the words randomly, ticking them off as you go, so that you can check the winning grids. You can vary the use of the definite and indefinite article, singular or plural. Students should also be the bingo caller, rather than always the teacher.
Calling card, featuring the English translation of the French Christmas words. This is great for additional challenge - students hear the English word, and translate it quickly, looking for it in writing in French in the grid.

The resource is non-editable for copyright reasons, and is in a zipped format. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use.
An ideal introduction to Europe, helping students develop their awareness of European countries, capital cities and flags.
There are 60 countries featured in the quiz. Each country is presented individually with its capital city and flag - as you show the slides, encourage students to shout out the country names as they appear - this tends to aid memory quite considerably - I point out the location of each country on the background map, which helps students situate each country within the continent, and visualizing the location of the countries again aids memory.
The presentation is followed by a series of 100 questions. The questions are structured slightly differently to differentiate the challenge a little: some focus on the countries, others on capital cities, and some on flags. Taken together, students will definitely develop a sound locational knowledge of the countries of Europe, their capital cities and flags.
The quiz works particularly well with several teams - encourage each team to choose a***European-themed team game***. Teams can either take it in turns to answer a question, but it’s also great fun, and keeps up a lively pace, to play as a Shout it out! quiz - whoever shouts out the correct answer first wins the point. The quiz works really well across the entire school year, and not just in geography or social science lessons - it’s really popular in form time too!.
The presentation moves on with a click. Each question slide is followed by the relevant answer slide - simply click, and it appears! The resource cannot be edited due to copyright and licensing restrictions of the fonts and clipart.
Please note this is the Geography World Continents Europe Presentation & Quiz version of my European Day of Languages Europe Presentation & Quiz - please ensure you have not already purchased the European Day of Languages version.
THANKS AND ENJOY YOUR JOURNEY AROUND EUROPE!
WORLD CONTINENTS NORTH & SOUTH AMERICA COUNTRY CARDS North & South America countries, capital cities and flags games cards provide great learning opportunities for any appropriate age group, at any time of the school year. Students can develop their knowledge of the geography of both continents in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. There are 23 flag cards showing North America, with matching country and capital city cards, and 14 flag cards showing South America, also with matching country and capital city cards. Students often get confused about Central America, so I make sure they’re aware that it isn’t a continent, but it is definitely a specific region, and there are 7 flag cards showing Central America, with matching country and capital city cards. Additionally, there are four picture info cards showing each continent, both within the context of a world map, and as a standalone continent map. There are matching text cards for these too. There are also detachable continent, country, capitals and combined country & capital labels that students use to label the flags.
There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the games help them fully develop their general awareness, knowledge and understanding of North, South and Central America.
There is a continent, country, capital city and flag reference list of all countries and capitals of North and South America, which students find useful to read through before playing - allow them only 60 seconds on a timer to really focus their reading and increase the sense of competition if you are playing competitive team games! Speaking and writing are language skills that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is really beneficial.
The questions are differentiated, addressing a broad range of ability, which aim to progress all learners. Tenses include present, future, near future, perfect and conditional. Question formats are likewise varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in English. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. The prompts are really versatile too, specifically with a focus on speaking and writing.
Speaking: As a whole-group activity, distribute the cards among your students, one or several. Ideally, they should walk around the classroom, asking questions, and swapping cards. For pair or small-group work, students can work in a designated area. This really helps them focus closely on the language, and helps learners who are slightly less confident working with a larger group.
Writing: The cards work best in pair or small-group work, where learners have access to reference resources, such as bilingual dictionaries and the internet. The latter will enable them to prepare detailed responses to questions which address general knowledge, rather than their own life. They can then transfer this knowledge to their spoken work.
The prompts broadly address the following themes: college life & study; future plans; information technology; where I live; social & environmental issues; North America/UK & travel; social activity & daily life
There’s a 2-page prompts master list, which is useful as a general reference resource, and we also use it for reading aloud and pronunciation practice, discussing in what ways we might adapt and amend the questions to create new prompts.

ENGLISCH ESL EFL ENGLISH VOCABULARY CARDS ENGLISH FOR CHILDREN VOCABULARY CARDS BEGINNER ENGLISH VOCABULARY CARDS 54 English words & phrases with 54 matching German vocab cards for German-speaking learners of English

Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their beginner English vocabulary in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The game cards and accompanying Recall & Write activities have a***multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling***. It doesn’t matter if any of the words or phrases don’t feature in your medium or even longer-term learning plan: this is a great way of encouraging your students to engage with new language, and to build their vocabulary at the same time.
This set features 54 words & phrases in the following categories:
Greetings - Begrüßungen
Days of the week - die Tage der Woche
Months of the year - die Monate des Jahres
Four seasons of the year - die vier Jahreszeiten
Useful phrases for the classroom - Englisch im Klassenzimmmer
Questions and Answers - Fragen und Antworten
The Reference, Recall & Write book has 8 pages. It includes an alphabetical English-German reference list of all 54 words & phrases. The***Recall and Write challenges*** help students familiarize themselves with, and really embed, the range of vocabulary in the set, and also get used to reading, writing and spelling in English. It’s also a great way of developing literacy skills in English.
There are two written recall challenges:
Challenge One requires students to write the corresponding German word or phrase from an English prompt. The words and phrases are in random, rather than category order - this challenges the memory more than when the vocab is in the order learners first learn it in.
Challenge Two requires students to write the corresponding English word or phrase from a German prompt. The words and phrases are again in random, rather than category order.
We use the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps page regularly, reflecting not only on the words and phrases they feel confident about, but also how they think their skills in listening, speaking, pronouncing English, reading and writing are developing - and equally importantly, what they can reasonably do to keep improving.
Laminate the game cards if you can - they are far more learner-friendly, and the additional prep and expense is definitely worth it, as the cards will remain in excellent condition for years.

Frequent and regular engagement with language is absolutely key to successful language learning.
Writing: The cards work best in pair or small-group work, where learners have access to reference resources, such as bilingual dictionaries and the internet. The latter will enable them to prepare detailed responses to questions which address general knowledge, rather than their own life. They can then transfer this knowledge to their spoken work.
The prompts broadly address the following themes: college life & study; future plans; information technology; where I live; social & environmental issues; North America/UK & travel; social activity & daily life.
I always remind my students that they do not have to ‘tell the truth’ in their responses! The important thing is to answer question correctly, appropriately and creatively. I encourage them to use the questions themselves as a frame of reference for their responses, and also when creating new prompts for each other, which is a really popular and successful activity too.
There’s a 2-page prompts master list in each set, which is useful as a general reference resource, and we also use it for reading aloud and pronunciation practice, discussing in what ways we might adapt and amend the questions to create new prompts.
