ESL EFL ENGLISH FOR CHILDREN NUMBERS 0-31 BEGINNER ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-31 LIST FREEBIE Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The resource is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, shared, amended, rewritten or distributed, in whole or in part, outside your own classroom in any way. The license is a single-user license only. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. I encourage my beginner English students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive English vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organizing their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning binders or folders. My students all have reference resource binders or folders, which can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files - we use twine or thick string too. I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language. Numbers definitely provide lots of opportunities for cross-curricular learning in class time, particularly with mental maths games, which really help beginner English learners get to grips with the vocabulary. My students find this English Numbers 0-31 recall worksheets really helpful - download for free here: ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-31 WORKSHEETS FREEBIE #1 https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/english-numbers-0-31-worksheets-freebie-1-12973394 There are two backgrounds to choose from - England flag, which I generally use for English vocabulary display, and plain. Please read the Terms of Use. The product is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, regardless of level, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce accurately language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning. The questions feature a range of tenses, such as the present tense, imperfect tense, conditional tense, and wenn + subjunctive + conditional clauses. There is also a significant amount of implicit input on a range of grammatical concepts, such as direct and indirect object pronouns, use of the subjunctive and so on. I include tenses we may not have formally covered, as the activity is not solely about practising language, but also about actively learning it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning. Questions formats are varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in German. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. I remind students that it is not necessary to tell the truth - the purpose is to create and produce accurate and realistic language. Students can prepare their responses in as much detail as possible on the accompanying planning sheet, remembering that these are conversation starters, so that once they have responded, they should then say something to continue the conversation going. Frequent and regular engagement with the activity brings the best results: with the planning sheet, students can create and prepare increasingly detailed and more complex responses, reflecting their learning progress. I definitely find it useful to read through the questions together as a whole-group, with students offering initial suggested responses. This ensures everyone can actually access the language, and they also benefit a lot from each others’ ideas. FRENCH NUMBERS 0-31 WORD SEARCHES

PRIMARY FRENCH NUMBERS 0-31 KS2 FRENCH NUMBERS 0-31 KS3 FRENCH NUMBERS 0-31 YEAR 7 FRENCH NUMBERS 0-31 Ten differentiated word searches with answer keys Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practising and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on Numbers 0-31 in French, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - enabling learners to engage with the target vocabulary, but also aligning with cross-curricular learning - working on reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and French language skills in general. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. As they move through the grids, their language skills are challenged in a range of ways - from straightforward vocabulary searching, to gap-fill, scrambled letters and more complex questions, which feature mathematical language in French. Hyphens are important in French numbers, and the grids feature these quite clearly, in order to ensure that learners can practice this aspect of language. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. For me, answer keys are essential, as they not only provide learners with another opportunity to engage with language, but they also help them develop more independence in their learning. They’re also a great teacher time-saver - a real bonus! There is a single word search per page, portrait format. I like to ensure that text is accessible to all learners - and at this stage of their learning, it’s absolutely essential that language looks accessible and manageable. There are two formats to choose from - the search grids and answer keys as separate worksheets, and also a file with both grids and answer keys together, so that you can print each grid and key double-sided, according to which suits your classroom needs better. Have a browse in my store for more French resources, including special offer bundles and freebies. MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BON APPRENTISSAGE !

It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only - please read the Terms of Use carefully. Ideal for children learning German and beginner German students of all ages and stages, providing them with a great opportunity to engage with the written word in German, at the same time developing essential beginner German vocabulary. The word searches are easily differentiated: the grids have an increasing level of challenge, to ensure that all students can feel confident about their learning - and lots of chances to keep challenging themselves. The direction of the words are indicated by arrows at the top of the grid. There are 5 German to German grids, with an additional English vocabulary list to complete for extra spelling and recall practice. For extra challenge, there are 5 English to German grids, with an additional German vocabulary list to complete - that’s a really effective way of consolidating vocabulary. All the grids have a corresponding answer key, which are essential in order to maximise the learning potential of the activity. They facilitate learner independence, also giving them an additional opportunity to engage with the target language - they also genuinely enjoy assessing their own, and each others’ work. This set is in landscape format, as in my experience young beginner German students, as well as older beginner German students, really benefit from a larger font, and having the language presented in the common direction of reading in both English and German, left to right. PRIMARY SPANISH KS3 SPANISH COLOURS FLASHCARDS POSTERS These Spanish colours posters create an instant introduction to a range of colours in Spanish in your classroom. The posters also give the learning environment a fabulous Spanish look and feel, promoting Spanish as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of the classroom. They introduce learners to colours in Spanish from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with both the ‘look’ of Spanish words, and how sounds are represented in the written form. The key colours are: aquamarine (blue-green); black; blue; brown (both marrón and pardo - I’ve also included castaño, as this is used to describe hair color and eyes for example, which are great topics to get learners talking in Spanish); cream (both beis and crema); green; grey; navy-blue; orange; bright pink; pink; purple; red; white; yellow. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. It doesn’t matter if this particular language doesn’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the flashcards / posters provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in Spanish, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in Spanish. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag or black wave, so 38 posters in total. Laminate the posters if possible, or print on card stock, particularly if you’re going to use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language: they’ll hang really nicely, stay in good shape, and you’ll be able to use them for years. PRIMARY ITALIAN KS3 ITALIAN ANIMALS FLASHCARDS POSTERS These Italian animals display posters / flashcards create a fabulous Italian look and feel in the learning environment. I’ve found that this also helps promote Italian as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of Italian. They introduce learners to a range of animals in Italian from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarise themselves with how*** Italian*** words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form. There are 20 animals using the masculine and feminine indefinite article, which again is a great opportunity to begin to compare Italian to English. I’ve chosen a couple of insects and birds, as well as animals that feature in very popular stories, such as orso and lupo. Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from their first language, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts in both languages, which I’ve found to be really useful for both current and later learning. The animals are: a bear a bee a bird a butterfly a cat a dog a fish a fox a frog a horse a kangaroo a monkey a mouse an owl a parrot a rabbit a spider a squirrel a turtle / tortoise a wolf It doesn’t matter if some of the animals don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the posters / flashcards provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in Italian, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in Italian. They also help learners begin to work out the meaning of new and unknown words from visual clues or prompts. There are two sets of 20 9.5x11 (A4) portrait posters, each with a different background for you to choose from: Italian flag or animal footprint, so 40 flashcards / posters in total. I always laminate my posters / flashcards as they hang a lot better, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last in great condition for years. I use these kinds of flashcards / posters to gradually introduce and work on the specific target language vocabulary we’re working on, and to provide speaking and pronunciation prompts, from the straightforward ¿Qué hora es? to ¿Sí/ no? or ¿Verdadero o falso? questions, which allow us to move to from one-word responses to more complex language, such as negative sentences No, no es medianoche, es mediodía and so on, paying particular attention here to the masculine and feminine. These are really simple ways to really try to get the most from classroom learning dsiplay, using them as visual language prompts, as well as keeping the target vocabulary fresh in students’ minds, and as language refresh and revision by changing the display at certain points of the school year. I like to have sets of learning displays for students, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time. Use them as flashcards to introduce and practise language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating. The flashcards / posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size. There are two backgrounds to choose from - Spanish flag or plain, so 56 flashcards / posters in total. I always laminate my posters / flashcards as they hang a lot better, are easier to manipulate as flashcards, and definitely last in great condition for years! ¡MUCHAS GRACIAS Y BUEN APRENDIZAJE!

My younger students love to see Spanish displays in the classroom, and they also work really well for older beginner Spanish learners too. There are 25 vegetables, definite article, feminine and masculine, singular and plural, which is a really effective way of promoting discussion about the concept of gender in Spanish. I tend to vary my Spanish classroom displays quite regularly, and have different posters up at various times of the school year. We use them as***speaking and pronunciation prompts, and for guessing games too***. We don’t actually learn 25 vegetables at this stage, but I use a range that includes some that children may not know yet, such as asparagus and artichoke. That’s ideal for discussing healthy eating, and for generally developing children’s vocabulary in their own language too. The posters work really well as flashcards too, and they’re great for introducing and practising language with a ‘low-tech’ method, giving us all a break from the whiteboard, which children definitely enjoy. The vegetables are: artichoke; asparagus; beetroot; broccoli; cabbage; carrots; cauliflower; celery; corn; cucumber ; eggplants / aubergines; French / green beans; garlic;; leeks; lettuce; mushrooms; onions; peas ; red peppers ; yellow pepper; potatoes; sprouts; spinach; sweet potatoes; tomato The posters are 8.5 x 11 (A4) portrait size; there are two backgrounds to choose from: Spanish flag or black wave, so 50 posters in all. This set of French Conversation starters features 100 starters in question format, suitable for intermediate French to advanced French students. Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, regardless of level, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce accurately language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning. The questions feature a range of tenses and moods, such as the present tense, present subjunctive, perfect, imperfect, and conditional perfect. There are several questions focusing on si + imperfect + conditional clauses, and a significant amount of implicit input on a range of grammatical concepts, such as agreement with preceding direct object, use of the subjunctive and so on. I try to include as broad a range of language as I can in the questions, as the activity is not solely about practising language, but also about actively learning it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning, which is just as important for more advanced learners. The starters broadly address the following themes: music, film & television literature & culture : personal life, information & preferences : leisure & free time : health & well-being : history & society recent & current events : travel, tourism & holidays : technology & social media : likes & dislikes : local environment : environmental & social issues : education & studies Have a look at these sets of French conversation starters: 10 FRENCH CONVERSATION STARTERS FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-conversation-starters-freebie-12903468 100 FRENCH CONVERSATION STARTERS #1 https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-conversation-starters-1-12849020 200 FRENCH CONVERSATION STARTERS BUNDLE #1 https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-conversation-starters-bundle-1-12903680 Have a browse in my store for more French resources, with French resource boxes, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies.
