Creating a lively language learning environment for young learners of French, and offering a popular alternative to more traditional, teacher-led***information about France*** lessons. Children can develop their knowledge of the francophone world - and through guided whole-group discussion - their home / host country too, in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, in part independently of the teacher. There is a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling, and is a great way of aligning language learning with developing literacy skills in English.
The resource comprises the following non-editable files:
20 facts cards - there are four facts in each of the following topic groups:arts & culture, country, famous people, language and history. There are blank templates for children to research and create their own facts cards for each other, and providing them with opportunity to apply learning and knowledge creatively. Over the school year, children should regularly add to their facts cards, which in time creates a fabulous bank of facts about France.
Facts recording sheet challenge level 1 - there are two options: either two or four fact recording boxes per page. Children read their selected facts, and copy the information in the boxes.
Facts recording sheet challenge level 2 - there are also two options: two or four fact recording boxes in this challenge level. However, there is a more open-ended task: responding to the question “What did you learn?”. This requires children to read their fact card, process the information, and then recreate it in their own words, describing the fact in the context of what they have learned.
24 question / comprehension cards — the questions have a differentiated range of challenge, and are based on the knowledge developed through the whole-group presentation and discussion, and the facts cards. There are some independent research questions, which I use as a springboard for further discussion based on children’s own developing interests about France. There are blank templates here too - creating questions is a great way to think about and apply knowledge and learning.

Task cards help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of Spanish numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in Spanish. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on Spanish Numbers 0-100, but also for cover lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity.
All questions are in Spanish, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as math symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. I don’t allow the use of calculators to increase the challenge a little. Some questions focus specifically on Spanish math language, which students do not always engage with very often. The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and arithmetic creatively and practically, which is***integral to successful language learning***. My students also genuinely enjoy creating questions for each other.
The set comprises the following non-editable files:
48 differentiated question cards, 6 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Laminate if possible - it’s definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they’re far more learner-friendly and remain in excellent condition for years.

An instant introduction to a range of colors in French in the classroom, introducing learners to colors in French from the very beginning of their learning, and helping them familiarize themselves with both the ‘look’ of French words, and how sounds are represented in the written form.
Looking at language, and the ways it works, either similarly to, or differently from, other languages, helps learners become implicitly aware of linguistic concepts, and how adjectives may change according to gender and number. This is really useful for both current and later learning. I often use the flashcards / posters for quick speaking refreshers at various points in an individual lesson, or across a series of lessons, really getting the most out of the display.
The key colors are: black; blue; brown (both brun and marron); cream (both crème and vanilla); green; grey; navy blue; orange; bright pink; pink; purple; red; turquoise; white; yellow. There’s also a poster / flashcards showing the French Flag. There are two backgrounds to choose from: French Flag (Tricolore) and plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum. Print on card stock and / or laminate if you can, as they are easier to manipulate as flashcards, display much more effectively as decor, and remain in excellent condition for years.
It doesn’t matter if some of the colors don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the posters provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in French, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates and near-cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in French.

FRANCE COUNTRY FACTS & ACTIVITIES BUNDLE #1
FRENCH FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER FRENCH FRANCE COUNTRY FACTS & ACTIVITIES 2 SETS @ $3.75 EACH IN THE BUNDLE eight topics areas: arts & culture; country/society; famous people; food; geography; history; landmarks and language

There is a bonus multi-focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading, writing and spelling, and is a great way of introducing cross-curricular learning in your world languages classroom, aligning language learning with other areas of the curriculum, such as geography, history, and developing literacy skills in both French and English.
The bundle comprises the following non-editable files:
40 facts cards - there are four facts in each of the following topic groups: geography; arts & culture; country/society; famous people; history; landmarks; language and food. There are four cards per 8.5x11 (A4) sheet. The language on each of the cards ranges from fairly basic to more advanced, which challenges and enhances children’s English reading comprehension skills. There are blank templates for children to research and create their own facts cards for each other. This is a really successful way of building knowledge and learning together. As their knowledge and understanding of the French-speaking world grows, children should add to their facts cards, which eventually builds up into a fabulous facts bank, which they can use the entire school year, and beyond.
Facts recording sheet challenge level 1 - there are two options: either two or four fact recording boxes per page. Children read their selected facts, and copy the information in the boxes. Encourage children to be as accurate as possible with their spelling and punctuation, to pay particular attention to the spelling and accents of the French words that are included, and of course to make sure they are recording the facts in their best handwriting
Facts recording sheet challenge level 2 - there are also two options: two or four fact recording boxes in this challenge level. However, there is a more open-ended task: responding to the question ***“What did you learn?”***. This requires children to read their fact card, process the information, and then recreate it in their own words, describing the fact in the context of what they have learned. Encourage children to look for lateral information, such as the existence of other countries where French is spoken, and to think about the continent where those countries are located.
48 question / comprehension cards - the questions have a differentiated range of challenge, and are based on the knowledge developed through the whole-group presentation and discussion, and the facts cards. There are some independent research questions, which I use as a springboard for further discussion based on children’s own developing interests about France. There are blank templates here too - creating questions is a great way to think about and apply knowledge and learning.
question / comprehension cards recording sheets: the recording sheet has four boxes per page. I encourage children to write their answer in full sentences, and to give as much relevant information as they can. They can also give more detailed responses than they can learn from the cards, engaging in further independent research. I like to combine this activity where possible with organised visits to the school library to gather relevant titles on France and La Francophonie, and do allow children to access pre-vetted websites.
2 x whole-group facts presentation & discussion - I’ve found this a really useful means of encouraging and stimulating classroom discussion. Children can reflect on what they may already know about France, and share it with their peers. Use the facts themselves to prompt discussion about the home / host country, for example “What is our capital city? Is it also our largest city?”, which really does create a successful cross-curricular learning environment.
The activities work really well across a series of lessons, rather than a single lesson. Print, laminate and cut out the cards - laminating is certainly worth the prep time, as the cards will last for many years. You can either give each small group of children a complete set of cards to choose from, or any particular number you think is appropriate. Decide how long you want the reading and writing activity to last for, and tell children how many cards you would like them to work with. This is quite a basic way of differentiating the activity. Children can then select random cards from their bowl. You can also select particular cards yourself if you prefer to differentiate by content, seating plan or learning groups for example.
Have a browse in my store for more country facts activities, and a wide range of other French resources created for young beginner learners, with French dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies too - I’ve included a couple here for you to try.

Challenge cards really do help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of fruits and vegetables in French in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling.
They’re great for helping students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words and more complex sentences in French. Sentence structure and word order may differ from students’ first and/or home language, so it’s important to provide them with opportunities to engage with language that moves beyond single-unit vocabulary as soon as possible. It also gives them chance to apply language in a practical, real-world context, which in turn helps embed both vocab and grammatical concepts into longer-term memory.
The questions are all in French, and range in complexity and challenge. There are 31 fruits and 33 vegetables addressed in the cards, and it’s unlikely that they are all in your teaching and learning plan. I always include additional vocabulary to add a little challenge, and to encourage students to think a little more creatively and independently.
There is an alphabetical French-English and English-French fruits and vegetables list to help students develop language awareness skills, as well as their French vocabulary. There are masculine and feminine fruits and vegetables, definite, indefinite and partitive article, and singular and plural - this really helps students familiarize themselves with grammatical concepts without explicit instruction.
There are some translation questions too - both from French to English and English to French, which is a great introduction to translation for beginner learners. I explain that there are several possible correct alternatives, as translation is not a word-for-word activity.
The question card template enables students to apply their knowledge of language and grammatical concepts creatively and practically - my students really enjoy creating questions for each other, and I encourage them to use the existing questions as a frame of reference as they create their own.

The prompt cards feature language and structures that your students are likely to meet in advanced beginner French and intermediate French programs, including a range of tenses.
The reference book includes all the questions and answers written out in French. Students find it a very useful learning support resources and it’s also handy for whole-group pronunciation and reading-out loud practice. Students use the Ideas, Notes and Next Steps template to reflect on their learning, and think about what they might reasonably do to progress in their learning - we use this to guide and inform discussions we have as a whole-group about where students think they are at the moment, and what they think they might like to work a little more on. They also jot down ideas for their own question and answers that they create for each other.
The question and answer card writing templates give students the opportunity to apply their French practically and creatively, as they put together both questions and answers for each other. This is integral to successful language learning. They use the reference book as a writing frame to help them produce accurate language . This is a great team activity too. We also use the cards for a whole range of games, and I’ve described how to play several you can start with that work really well for us.

A great way of getting your students talking without feeling ‘on the spot’, or worried about not getting their pronunciation and accent right in front of the whole class. The Q&A prompt cards offer structured talk opportunities, and focus on vocabulary, structures and general knowledge that they are likely to meet in both the beginning and more intermediate stages of their English learning.
My students apply their developing English knowledge creatively and practically by crafting their own questions and answers, using the prompts as speaking frames. With focused and frequent practice, they begin to feel more confident about their language skills, using the Notes and Next Steps pages in the reference book to jot down their ideas. We also use the pages to note how they think their skills are developing, and how well they are beginning to understand fully both the range of vocabulary and grammatical concepts.
The language in this set is ideal for advanced beginner English students moving into intermediate English, and feature a range of differentiated questions and answers, addressing various aspects of English, such as f***forming questions, the use of the present and present continuous tenses, word order*** and so on. This is really important for language learners, who often attempt to impose the grammar and structures of their first language onto the new language they are learning. These posters are always really popular with my students and great for the beginning of a new school year to decorate your learning environment. They’re really useful for creating an***instant and comprehensive introduction to Europe***.
There are 144 portrait posters (A4, 8.5 x 11) in German showing European countries, capital cities and flags. They give your classroom a great multicultural look and feel, at the same time promoting German as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of your - and your students’ - classroom. There may be a number of countries and capital cities that students do not know, or are not aware of, so the posters can help students develop their general knowledge and understanding of European geography.
I’ve included a range of islands, such as the Faroe Islands, to extend students’ knowledge of Europe a little further, and I’ve also shown some countries, for example Armenia, that are often classed as belonging either to Europe or to Asia. I’ve also included two posters for some countries, such as France, officially known as Französische Republik - you can choose either that, or the more frequently-used Frankreich to display.
The posters look great displayed horizontally across a particular learning area - alphabetically works well, though non-alphabetically is perfect for a country quest activity. They’re ideal for the annual Europe Day celebration, and The European Day of Languages, as well as an all year round display. It’s definitely extra prep and expense, but I do always laminate my classroom decor posters / flashcards - they hang on the walls more easily, and I recycle them to display at different times of the school year.
There are two backgrounds to choose from - Europe map or plain, so 144 posters in total.
My students find this reference list really useful - every European country and its capital city in German - download it for free here:

GERMAN COLORS FLASHCARDS POSTERS

These German colors display posters / flashcards create a fabulous German look and feel in the learning environment. This also helps promote German as a living language, featuring in the everyday life of beginner learners of German. They introduce learners to a range of colors in German from the very beginning of their learning, and they are able to familiarize themselves with how ***German***words ‘look’, and how sounds are represented in the written form.
Use them as flashcards to introduce and practice language too - it’s a traditional and successful low-tech teaching method, which gives students a welcome break from the whiteboard - varying teaching methodologies in the language learning classroom is always a good idea, and I also encourage my students to take the role of the teacher too, which they find really motivating.
The colors are: beige (both beige and cremefarben); black; blue; brown; green; grey; navy-blue; orange; bright pink; pink; purple; red; turquoise; white; yellow. There are two design formats to choose from: German Flag or plain without frame, to keep prep costs to a minimum. Laminate if you can, as the posters will display really well, and remain in excellent condition for years. As flashcards, they are far easier to manipulate too.
It doesn’t matter if some of the colors don’t feature in your immediate or even longer-term learning plan: the flashcards / posters provide learners with daily opportunities to engage with the written word in German, to develop their recognition and recall of individual words, to identify cognates, and to begin to link spelling with sound in German.

FRENCH SPEAKING & WRITING PROMPTS #2
FSL FLE INTERMEDIATE FRENCH ADVANCED FRENCH SPEAKING & WRITING PROMPTS
The resource consists of three non-editable files in a zipped format. It is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, shared or distributed in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use.
Speaking and writing are language skills that learners tend to find very challenging, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is really beneficial.
The questions are differentiated, addressing a broad range of ability, which aim to progress all learners. Tenses include present, future, near future, perfect and conditional. Question formats are likewise varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in French. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. The prompts are really versatile too, specifically with a focus on speaking and writing.
Speaking: As a whole-group activity, distribute the cards among your students, one or several. Ideally, they should walk around the classroom, asking questions, and swapping cards. For pair or small-group work, students can work in a designated area. This really helps them focus closely on the language, and helps learners who are slightly less confident working with a larger group. The cards work particularly well as ice-breakers at the beginning of the school year, refreshers after vacation, prep for both new phase learning, for example intermediate to advanced intermediate, and even advanced intermediate to advanced, as well as exams.
Writing: The cards work best in pair or small-group work, where learners have access to reference resources, such as bilingual dictionaries and the internet. The latter will enable them to prepare detailed responses to questions which address general knowledge, rather than their own life. They can then transfer this knowledge to their spoken work. There’s also a 2-page prompts master list.
The prompts broadly address the following themes: college life & study; future plans; information technology; where I live; social & environmental issues; France & travel; social activity & daily life.
