Perfect for developing English language skills in general, as well as for practicing and revising numbers 0-21 in English. There are 36 differentiated questions, answer key, recording sheet and number reference sheet. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling, and really help students develop more independence in their learning, moving away from more teacher-led tasks and activities. There’s also a question card template for students to apply language creatively and practically, which is an essential aspect of successful language learning, and is also a really popular activity with my students. Task cards are really versatile too - we use them not only when we’re focusing on the target vocabulary, but throughout the year for sub lessons, as entrance and exit tickets, refreshers and free-choice learning. The questions range in complexity and challenge, ensuring a scaffolded learning experience for students. All the questions are in English, including a range of English math language. Students may not necessarily engage with that at this stage of their learning, so I use math symbols as visual clues and prompts, enabling students to infer meaning from context. This is a key language learning skill in general, which is important for students to develop as quickly as possible. The resource comprises the following non-editable files in a zipped format: 36 differentiated question cards 4 per A4 (8.5 x 11) paper. Print, laminate and cut out. Laminating is definitely worth the extra prep time and expense, as they cards are far more learner-friendly, and last for absolutely years. answer recording sheet we mostly use class notebooks for recording answers, as this saves prep time and paper, though recording sheets are really useful for more formal assessment purposes. answer key question card template for students to apply their knowledge practically and creatively, which is an integral to successful language learning, and is a really popular activity too. number reference sheet Try this freebie, which is in a similar format, and will give you a good idea of the level of both language and math, and whether this kind of activity would work well for your students: ENGLISH NUMBERS 0-21 TASK CARDS FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/english-numbers-0-21-task-cards-freebie-12951947 THANKS AND ENJOY YOUR ENGLISH LESSONS!

Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time. I give my students these worksheets when I’m introducing half past the hour in German, so that they can practise and embed both recognizing the time, and writing the time phrase itself. Students really enjoy the opportunity to test their recall too, particularly with this time set, which they often find quite challenging. The worksheets are useful in a number of contexts: I use them for cover lessons, as starters, plenaries, five-minute refreshers and home learning activities. I’ve found that lessons around the Christmas period are a great time for revisiting and practising language and structures we’ve looked at over the semester. The questions are entirely in English, and students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their developing knowledge of English in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. Most learners will be able to infer meaning from context and images, which have a real England/UK Christmas theme, such as Christmas crackers and mince pies, with vocabulary and structures repeated throughout, giving learners a chance to familiarise themselves really well with them. Nonetheless, it can be useful to read through the questions with the whole class first to check everyone is able to access the language, and therefore the activity, successfully. Students really do benefit in terms of language learning if they have regular and frequent opportunities to work with the cards, rather than simply working with them in a single lesson. The English Christmas vocabulary provides a really useful springboard for discussion about Christmas customs and traditions in England and the UK, comparing and contrasting these to other Christmas practices students may know. Games with goals: lots of festive fun with these Spanish Christmas bingo games - an ideal multi-skill language learning activity for developing listening, speaking, reading, writing and spelling skills for***Spanish*** language learners of all ages - in my experience, adult learners really enjoy a few competitive games of bingo too. The Spanish Christmas vocabulary and Spanish Christmas pictures are great as a stimulus discussion about Spanish Christmas traditions and customs, comparing them across different Spanish regions, other Spanish-speaking countries, and Christmas in countries around the world. There are 100 grids in total, in both color & BW. The color grids definitely look really good, but can prove expensive to prep - I have sets that I’ve laminated, and students use wipe-free pens, so that the grids can be used many times. Younger learners do tend to prefer the BW grids, taking some additional time to colour them in themselves, practicing the vocabulary as they do so. I often combine that activity with revision of colors, which can work really well too. These games are designed for players to cross off all the words or pictures on their grids in order to win the game. There is a range of differentiated grids: = 40 picture-only bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages) Color and BW. = 40 words & pictures bingo 12-square grids, 4 per page (10 pages) Color & B&W. = 10 picture-only 30-square grids (A4 portrait format) Color & BW. = 10 words & pictures 30-square grids (A4 portrait format) Color & BW. = Calling card***, featuring 33 Spanish Christmas words. Print or photocopy double-sided to minimize prep. There are 8 check columns per page, so that you can really get the most from each card - call the words randomly, ticking them off as you go, so that you can check the winning grids. You can vary the use of the definite and indefinite article, singular or plural. = Calling card, featuring the English translation of the Spanish Christmas words. This is great for additional challenge - students hear the English word, and translate it quickly, looking for it in writing in Spanish in the grid. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only - please read the Terms of Use carefully. These word searches are an ideal introduction to conjugating French verbs and perfect for practicing the correct conjugation of two key French verbs: être and avoir. We do lots of comparison with English, and discuss both similarities and differences - this helps students think about patterns in verb conjugation and how languages work in general. They also help young beginners familiarise themselves with personal pronouns in French. I use word searches a lot in my languages classroom - they’re ideal for encouraging students to engage with the written word in French, and for building vocabulary. I differentiate the grids, so that there is plenty of increasing challenge, that I give students time to work through - this way I can be sure that all my students are motivated to progress. This set features 5 French-French grids, and 5 English-French grids - this gets students applying their developing knowledge of French a little differently. There’s additional consolidation: students have to complete a verb list in each grid too. I always give answer keys - for me, that’s an essential part of the learning - they give students an extra opportunity to engage with language, and they also help students develop more independence in their learning. Students also genuinely enjoy checking their own and each others’ work. The format of the word searches is a single grid per 8.5 x 11, landscape format, mirroring the direction of reading from left to right in both French and English. Try this French fruits word searches freebie - they’re in the same format as this set, so you’ll be able to see whether this kind of activity would work well for your learners: FRENCH FRUITS WORD SEARCHES FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/french-fruits-word-searches-freebie-12510002 MERCI BEAUCOUP ET BON APPRENTISSAGE !

The resource is free to download, but Terms of Use still apply. Twenty fruits in Italian, with both words and pictures - I like to give visual vocabulary lists to my young beginner learners of Italian, as they can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image. Children glue them into their Italian vocabulary books, or file them in their Italian vocabulary folders with other vocabulary lists, which gives them an accessible and useful Italian vocabulary reference bank for both class and home learning. We also discuss which fruits we know and like, and those we would like to try. Children like to create their own word and picture dictionary lists, adding to it as they learn more. I don’t necessarily have all the fruits in my teaching and learning plan, but it’s always a good idea to give children opportunity to engage with a broader range of words and sounds, which they begin to absorb quite naturally. The fruits focus on the definite article, either singular or plural, which is a great for promoting discussion about grammatical concepts in Italian, specifically gender of Italian nouns. The fruits are: the red apple the bananas the cherries the fig the green grapes the lemon the mangos the nectarine the olives the oranges the papaya the peach the pears the pineapple the pumpkin the raspberry the rhubarb the starfruit the strawberries the watermelon There are two backgrounds to choose from - Italian flag, which I use for Italian vocabulary display, or plain. PRIMARY FRENCH IMMERSION BEGINNER FRENCH NUMBERS 0-31 Ten differentiated word searches with answer keys Files are non-editable in a zipped format. The product is copyright, all rights reserved. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. Word searches are a fabulous way of encouraging learners to engage with the written word, practicing and reinforcing language as they complete the grids. This set features ten differentiated word searches, focusing on Numbers 0-31 in French, with each consecutive grid increasing in challenge. The searches offer a really useful learning opportunity - enabling learners to engage with the target vocabulary, but also aligning with cross-curricular learning - working on reading, writing, spelling, numeracy and French language skills in general. Learners are able to identify which direction words are located in within the grid by referring to the arrow key. As they move through the grids, their language skills are challenged in a range of ways - from straightforward vocabulary searching, to gap-fill, scrambled letters and more complex questions, which feature mathematical language in French. Hyphens are important in French numbers, and the grids feature these quite clearly, in order to ensure that learners can practice this aspect of language. There is an answer grid for each word search, so that learners can check their answers - or use for a little extra help if they need it. For me, answer keys are essential, as they not only provide learners with another opportunity to engage with language, but they also help them develop more independence in their learning. They’re also a great teacher time-saver - a real bonus! There is a single word search per page, portrait format. I like to ensure that text is accessible to all learners - and at this stage of their learning, it’s absolutely essential that language looks accessible and manageable. There are two formats to choose from - the search grids and answer keys as separate worksheets, and also a file with both grids and answer keys together, so that you can print each grid and key double-sided, according to which suits your classroom needs better. I encourage my beginner French students of all ages and stages to build up comprehensive vocabulary banks that they can reference easily whenever they need it, and they’re also really useful for regular vocabulary audits, which really helps students map their progress and keep track of their learning. Students take responsibility for organising their own learning materials from the very beginning of their learning, keeping them carefully in vocabulary learning files or folders. My students all have reference resource folders or files - these can have a range of formats - for instance, sticking into a large exercise book, or punching holes down the left-hand side, and adding to files (we also use twine or thick string). I also use this kind of vocabulary list for quick vocabulary quizzes, spelling competitions and so on, and it also works well laminated for small-group work in class time. The font size is fairly large, as ensuring that language is clear and accessible is essential for beginner language learners, as they begin to familiarize themselves with words and spelling systems in a new language. There are two backgrounds to choose from - French flag, which I generally use for French vocabulary display, and plain. It may not be copied, rewritten, amended, shared or distributed outside your own classroom in any way. The license for purchase is a single-user license only. Please read the Terms of Use. This set of German Conversation starters features 100 starters in question format, suitable for intermediate German to advanced German students. Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, regardless of level, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce accurately language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning. The questions feature a range of tenses and moods, such as the present tense, present subjunctive, perfect, imperfect, and conditional perfect. There are several questions focusing on wenn + subjunctive + conditional clauses, and a significant amount of implicit input on a range of grammatical concepts, such as word order with separable verbs in various tenses, um + zu clauses and so on. I try to include as broad a range of language as I can in the questions, as the activity is not solely about practicing language, but also about*** actively learning*** it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning, which is just as important for more advanced learners. Questions formats are varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in German. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. Each card has an image: some of these are specific visual prompts to help students infer meaning; some are more generic images. I do use images as much as possible with this kind of activity, not only to provide the prompt, but also to add to the ***visual appea***l of it, which is a real motivator for learning. The starters broadly address the following themes: music, film & television literature & culture :personal life, information & preferences : leisure & free time : health & well-being : history & society recent & current events : travel, tourism & holidays : technology & social media likes & dislikes : local environment : environmental & social issues : education & studies Have a browse in my store for more German speaking skills activities, with German dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies. Perfect for advanced beginner German students, who are working regularly with compound sentences and more complex texts, and intermediate German students, who are refreshing prior knowledge. German separable verbs can be quite a challenging concept for English-speaking German learners, and I’ve found that focused practice really helps them consolidate their understanding of how to conjugate them accurately, particularly the location of the separable prefix at the end of the clause. This kind of activity really does help to create a lively language learning environment. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their conjugation skills in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. The questions have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping students familiarise themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling in German in general, and certainly in conjugating German separable verbs in the present tense in particular. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on German conjugation, but also as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how conjugation works, and how patterns can be identified and applied, it’s also about enjoying working with German, and to feel confident about doing so. Students can develop, embed, reinforce and refresh their knowledge of French numbers in a cooperative, communicative and interactive way, independently of the teacher. They have a bonus multi-skill focus on listening, speaking, pronunciation, reading and spelling. They’re great for helping beginner French students familiarize themselves with, and develop competence in, speaking, reading, writing and spelling longer words in French. The cards are useful not only when you’re focusing on French Numbers 0-31, but also for sub lessons, as an all-year-round starter, plenary and general ‘pick-me-up’ activity, as the goal is not simply to learn how to count in French, but also to enjoy working with French, and to feel confident about doing so. All questions are in French, and range in complexity and challenge, both in terms of language and number skills. I’ve used visual prompts such as math symbols to ensure all learners can engage with the questions, and this helps them to begin to infer meaning from context, and to decode cues and prompts to foster understanding. I don’t allow the use of calculators to increase the challenge a little. Some questions focus specifically on French math language, which students do not always engage with very often. The level of math is fairly simple, but certainly draws on prior number and arithmetic learning. I’ve labelled the cards A-L, so that if you have the set of 48 task cards, you can use them together. Set 2 English Conversation starters also features 100 starters in question format, suitable for intermediate English to advanced English students. Speaking is a language skill that learners tend to find very challenging, regardless of level, and increased engagement with language that requires them to both reproduce accurately language they are already familiar with, and to be creative with that language in order to produce new language is integral to successful language learning. In Set 1, the questions focus largely on the present tense, with some examples of the present perfect tense. I include tenses we may not have formally covered, as the activity is not solely about practicing language, but also about actively learning it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning. In Set 2, the questions feature a range of tenses and moods, such as the present tense, present subjunctive, perfect, imperfect, and conditional perfect. There are several questions focusing on if + subjunctive + conditional clauses. There is a significant amount of implicit input on a range of grammatical concepts, particularly the use of tenses. I try to include as broad a range of language as I can in the questions, regardless of student learning level, as the activity is not solely about practicing language, but also about actively learning it. I encourage students to look for cues and clues in the questions themselves, and this certainly enables them to engage with new or unknown language successfully, and to progress in their learning, which is just as important for more advanced learners. Questions formats are varied, to ensure maximum opportunity to work with the different ways to ask questions in English. Some questions seek to elicit very similar information, but are asked in different language: this avoids learners simply parroting learned responses to fixed prompts. Each card has an image: some of these are specific visual prompts to help students infer meaning; some are more generic images. I do use images as much as possible with this kind of activity, not only to provide the prompt, but also to add to the visual appeal of it, which is a real motivator for learning. I remind students that it is not necessary to tell the truth - the purpose is to create and produce accurate and realistic language. Students can prepare their responses in as much detail as possible on the accompanying planning sheet, remembering that these are conversation starters, so that once they have responded, they should then say something to continue the conversation going. Frequent and regular engagement with the activity brings the best results: with the planning sheet, students can create and prepare increasingly detailed and more complex responses, reflecting their learning progress. I definitely find it useful to read through the questions together as a whole-group, with students offering initial suggested responses. This ensures everyone can actually access the language, and they also benefit a lot from each others’ ideas. As a whole-group activity, distribute the cards amongst your students, one or several. Ideally, they should walk around the classroom, asking questions, and swapping cards. For pair or small-group work, students can work in a designated area. This really helps them focus closely on the language, and helps learners who are slightly less confident working with a larger group. The starters in Set 1 broadly address the following themes: personal information : family & routines at home : hobbies & free time : likes & dislikes : local environment : food & drink : school & studies : sport & healthy living : countries & languages : weather & seasons The starters in Set 2 broadly address the following themes: music, film & television : literature & culture : personal life, information & preferences : leisure & free time : health & well-being : history & society : recent & current events : travel, tourism & holidays : technology & social media : likes & dislikes : local environment : environmental & social issues : education & studies Try this freebie: 10 ENGLISH CONVERSATION STARTERS FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/english-conversation-starters-freebie-12925205 Have a browse in my store for more English resources, including English dollar deals, special offer bundles, and freebies. ENGLISH TELLING TIME HALF PAST WORKSHEETS FREEBIE

ESL EFL ENGLISH FOR CHILDREN BEGINNER ENGLISH HOW TO TELL TIME IN ENGLISH HALF PAST THE HOUR ANALOG WORKSHEETS FREEBIE I like to have sets of super simple worksheets that I can give to my young beginner learners of English, not only when they’re new to the target vocabulary, but also for refreshing and revising language they’ve learnt some time ago. Students can generally more easily assimilate new language and vocabulary when they are able to link it in their memory with a visual image, and it’s particularly important to match a clock time with the corresponding clock face when learning how to tell the time. I give my students these worksheets at the same time as introducing the time set, so that they can practice and embed both recognizing the time, and writing the time phrase itself. Students really enjoy the opportunity to test their recall too. The worksheets are useful in a number of contexts: I use them for sub lessons, as starters, plenaries, five-minute refreshers and home learning activities. I occasionally use them for more formal assessment purposes too. Students also find this How to tell the time in English half past the hour list freebie helpful: HOW TO TELL TIME IN ENGLISH : HALF PAST THE HOUR LIST FREEBIE https://www.tes.com/teaching-resource/english-telling-time-half-past-list-freebie-12506781 Have a browse in my store for more English super simple worksheets, and a wide range of other English teaching and learning materials, with English dollar deals, special offer bundles, and lots of freebies.
