A lesson on the poem Storm on the Island by Seamus Heaney in the AQA Poetry Anthology Power and Conflict. The lesson concentrates on Semantic Fields and analysing language techniques in the poem.

This is one lesson that is part of a larger unit of work on Spoken Discourse for A Level English Language. I use it with my Y12 students and get them to find examples of different texts (spoken and written) for a follow up lesson.

One lesson on the WW1 poem Dulce et Decorum Est by Wilfred Owen. The handouts are adapted for low, middle and high ability. I get the students to wear a builder’s dust mask to empathise with the soldiers’ experiences in a gas attack.

A full unit of work for AQA Paper 1 Section B using pictures as prompts. Nine lessons with resources as extracts for handouts. Each powerpoint is a full lesson with an assessment at the end. The Great Gatsby extract is an abridged version making it accessible for KS3 and KS4 students.
Could be adapted for KS3 but used with my KS4 students.

A useful lesson for KS3 or KS4 on how to develop sentence structure in creative writing. Using different settings as a way in and inspiration students can develop sentence structure whilst also developing skills needed for Paper 1 Section B writing for AQA (with a picture prompt).

Three lessons on developing student responses to the opinion article for AQA A Level English Language Paper 2 Q4.
This question requires creativity with language as well as linguistic content. The lessons build on each other, the first one is 34 slides long and the second two include handouts and practice questions.
These resources could easily be extended for a six lesson unit of work.

A Level English Language Transcript for use with Paper 1 meanings and representations. This transcript is also part of a bigger bundle unit of work as an introduction to spoken language analysis.
I use this with my Y12 classes for AQA however this transcript would work for any specification.
Complete unit of ten lessons and revision resources for the AQA Spec A Unseen Prose question for Paper 2. Using the AQA past paper inserts as a basis for building individual lessons.
Many of the lessons are walkthroughs of unseen prose extracts for the exam including a fun lesson on Modernism and Post-modernism.
The unit includes ideas on narrative voice and thesis statements and a ten extract booklet of texts from 1945 to the present day for use as an introduction to Unseen Prose study for Paper 2.
This is designed to be one lesson introducing the Unseen Prose element of AQA Spec A Paper 2. It uses the past paper Nov 2020 from AQA and walks the students through approaches to the text. 15 slide ppt.
