Happy Numbers

Happy Numbers

(5)
A nice little investigation into which numbers are happy and which are unhappy. Pupils will end up with a reflected pattern in their grid and as an extension you can ask them to try and draw flow diagrams (I have referenced the source for these (davecavill - also on the TES site) in the powerpoint itself!) If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Probability Investigation

Probability Investigation

(5)
Another lesson based on a worksheet I saw. Pupils investigate how many ways a coin can reach a certain destination according to a rule, then find the pattern of Pascal's Triangle. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Frustums
Owen134866Owen134866

Frustums

(13)
Lesson on calculating the Volume of Frustums, using similar shapes to work out the height of the part that has been removed. A challenging lesson for top ability GCSE pupils. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
The Sine and Cosine rules
Owen134866Owen134866

The Sine and Cosine rules

(4)
Powerpoints to help with the teaching of the Sine rule, Cosine rule and the Area of a Triangle using Sine. I have included explanations of how the rules are derived in case your class are interested. Also in the Area of a Triangle using Sine powerpoint, I included an example of using it to calculate a formula for Pi! (Which a lot of the kids always seem to write down!). If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Car Hire Graphs
Owen134866Owen134866

Car Hire Graphs

(5)
Lesson on plotting graphs of two Car Hire companies and interpreting the shape of the graphs and what their 'features' actually mean. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Completing the Square
Owen134866Owen134866

Completing the Square

(2)
2 lesson sequence on Completing the Square. The first lesson pupils are introduced to the pattern and how to rewrite expressions under various conditions. The second lesson pupils actually use the process to solve equations. This has been made to go with our IGCSE textbooks but I imagine most courses structure it in a similar way! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Multiplicative Relationships
Owen134866Owen134866

Multiplicative Relationships

(4)
3 lessons on ratio problems, but with an emphasis on using fractions in calculations and not relying on calculators or decimals. The students may well have seen ratio already in which case their methods may be different to those used here, which is fine! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Iteration and Square Roots
Owen134866Owen134866

Iteration and Square Roots

(3)
In this lesson, students learn what iteration is and see an example of how it was used to calculate square roots of non-square numbers. There is an explanation of the notation involved and students get to try the process out for themselves. Could be used as an introduction to the topic. Equations for Proportion
Owen134866Owen134866

Equations for Proportion

(3)
These lessons have been made to go with the IGCSE course but could easily be adapted. Pupils learn how to write equations for quantities linked by Direct or Inverse Proportion. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Midpoints of Quadrilaterals
Owen134866Owen134866

Midpoints of Quadrilaterals

(7)
Lesson where students learn to calculate the midpoint between two coordinates, but then apply this to sides of shapes on coordinate axes and discuss what they notice. Could be extended to more polygons and the more able can try to explain the 'why' behind the patterns they find. Egyptian Fractions
Owen134866Owen134866

Egyptian Fractions

(1)
Pupils can learn about fractions by doing divisions the Egyptian way! For a more exciting powerpoint, please check out cbarclay99’s at this link: http://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/Egyptian-Fractions-6255731/ If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Math in Sport - Average Speeds
Owen134866Owen134866

Math in Sport - Average Speeds

(1)
Pupils use Maths to calculate the average speed of runners in various Olympic races and plot a graph of their results. They then try to explain the data by interpreting their graphs. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Swapped Orders
Owen134866Owen134866

Swapped Orders

(1)
I use this lesson after teaching pupils some of the basics of Algebra. They perform 2 operations on a number and write down the answer. Then, they swap the operations around and write the answer for that as well. They should notice that the difference between the answers follows some kind of pattern, and then have to try and use some algebra to explain it. Graph Transformations Matchups
Owen134866Owen134866

Graph Transformations Matchups

(1)
This resource contains 3 sets of graphs to be matched with their transformations. There is also a question sheet with extra problems based on each set. The graphs were all produced for this resource using the fantastic Desmos graphing tool (www.desmos.com). More Math Relays

More Math Relays

(1)
As with Chris Smith's group challenges, we have also built his Maths relays (https://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/maths-relay-races-problem-solving-puzzles-6064073) into our Y7 scheme of work. They have proven to be very popular with the pupils, and we therefore needed some for Y8 as well - so I made some! The instructions give a few ideas that make these run more smoothly! The majority of the problems have been taken from elsewhere so are not all my own work. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Volume and Surface Area Investigation
Owen134866Owen134866

Volume and Surface Area Investigation

(1)
Pupils investigate what happens when the increase one of the dimensions of a cuboid by 1 unit repeatedly, and plot their results on a graph. They then try to explain their findings. Can be extended to Surface Area as well. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Math Mechanics 3 - Set of lesson powerpoints
Owen134866Owen134866

Math Mechanics 3 - Set of lesson powerpoints

(1)
Set of powerpoints to help with the teaching of the A-level Mechanics 3 course. These have been mapped to the edexcel textbooks in a similar way to my other A-level stuff and have chapter tests made up of old exam questions, with mark schemes included. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
The Konigsberg Problem
Owen134866Owen134866

The Konigsberg Problem

(1)
An investigation into traversable networks, centred around solving the Konigsberg problem. Pupils decide whether a number of networks are traversable or not and then look for patterns in their results. Includes everything you need to just do the lesson! If you like this please check out my other stuff on here! :)
3D Trigonometry
Owen134866Owen134866

3D Trigonometry

(1)
Powerpoint to be used to explain how to use Trigonometry in 3D shapes. Includes a starter, main explanation and a plenary. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Math Core 3 - Set of lesson Powerpoints
Owen134866Owen134866

Math Core 3 - Set of lesson Powerpoints

(1)
These 8 powerpoints have been made to go with the Pearson Edexcel C3 books. They contain the examples from the books, split into sections in the same format as the chapters. You can use the worksheets as end of chapter tests or as a starting point for revision. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)\nEDIT 8/6/14: Added Mark Schemes into the worksheets!
