Equations involving X Squared
Owen134866Owen134866

Equations involving X Squared

(3)
Lesson on solving equations with an x squared term in. However, these do not also contain an x term meaning they do not need to be solved by factorisation. The idea is that pupils practise solving these as they would a linear equation, but appreciate the possibility of more than 1 answer when they square root. Areas of Flags
Owen134866Owen134866

Areas of Flags

(2)
3 Lessons of Powerpoints and Worksheets covering the areas of Rectangles, Triangles, Parallelograms and Trapeziums. The pupils have to find areas of different colours on national flags which are all the above area, and also using other mathematical topics. You will need to write on the powerpoints quite a bit on the starters, plenaries and examples! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
The Sine and Cosine rules
Owen134866Owen134866

The Sine and Cosine rules

(4)
Powerpoints to help with the teaching of the Sine rule, Cosine rule and the Area of a Triangle using Sine. I have included explanations of how the rules are derived in case your class are interested. Also in the Area of a Triangle using Sine powerpoint, I included an example of using it to calculate a formula for Pi! (Which a lot of the kids always seem to write down!). Math Core 1 - Set of lesson powerpoints
Owen134866Owen134866

Math Core 1 - Set of lesson powerpoints

(2)
As with my other resources for A-level, these are made to go with the Edexcel course and textbooks, and cover the whole of C1. The worksheets are a good starting point for exam preparation as they split the course up - better than sending them straight onto papers with all different topics on! If you like this then please check out my other resources on TES! :)\nEDIT: 7/6/14 Added Mark Schemes to the worksheets!\nEDIT: 28/11/14 Added chapter 1-3 tests to use as evidence of suitability for the rest of the A-level course!
Coordinate Patterns
Owen134866Owen134866

Coordinate Patterns

(3)
Pupils plot coordinates based on rules. This is effectively graph plotting but without using the formal algebra. The powerpoint is set up in such a way that certain sections should be written on and the worksheet has plenty of questions! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)\nEDIT: 1/4/14 Improved the visibility of the gridlines on the sheet.
Math Core 4 - Set of Lesson Powerpoints
Owen134866Owen134866

Math Core 4 - Set of Lesson Powerpoints

(2)
This set of powerpoints go with the Edexcel textbooks and cover the entire Core 4 course from start to finish. Pupils can use these for revision or you can use them to deliver lessons! The worksheets can be used as end of chapter tests or as a basis for starting revision. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)\nEDIT 9/6/14: Added Mark Schemes to the worksheets!
Congruent Halves
Owen134866Owen134866

Congruent Halves

(2)
Pupils have to split shapes into congruent pairs by drawing lines on them. Makes teaching congruency more interesting and there is an extension activity for more investigation. You will need to write on some of the powerpoint slides! Thanks to Jim Noble (@teachmaths, http://www.teachmathematics.net/) for the idea! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Multiplicative Relationships
Owen134866Owen134866

Multiplicative Relationships

(4)
3 lessons on ratio problems, but with an emphasis on using fractions in calculations and not relying on calculators or decimals. The students may well have seen ratio already in which case their methods may be different to those used here, which is fine! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here! :)
Which games are worth it?
Owen134866Owen134866

Which games are worth it?

(1)
Lesson on using Probability to decide whether games are worth playing, based on the cost of playing and the potential winnings. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
Properties of Numbers
Owen134866Owen134866

Properties of Numbers

(2)
Pupils have to use types of numbers (square/triangular etc) and their properties (even/odd/factors etc) in order to solve problems. The two puzzles used in the activity are not my own (I'm not sure where I originally found them...), but are excellent for pupils to discuss how to approach problems. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Making Shapes with Graphs
Owen134866Owen134866

Making Shapes with Graphs

(2)
Improved version of an older resource of mine. Pupils are shown some simple graphs (horizontal, vertical, and diagonals based on y = x and y = -x), and have to try and use these graphs to create shapes. It is essential that pupils always label their lines and for the plenaries they can share some of their answers on the board. If you like this resource then please check out my other things on the TES site! :)
Equations for Proportion
Owen134866Owen134866

Equations for Proportion

(3)
These lessons have been made to go with the IGCSE course but could easily be adapted. Pupils learn how to write equations for quantities linked by Direct or Inverse Proportion. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Graph Transformations Matchups
Owen134866Owen134866

Graph Transformations Matchups

(1)
This resource contains 3 sets of graphs to be matched with their transformations. There is also a question sheet with extra problems based on each set. The graphs were all produced for this resource using the fantastic Desmos graphing tool (www.desmos.com). More Math Relays
Owen134866Owen134866

More Math Relays

(1)
As with Chris Smith's group challenges, we have also built his Maths relays (https://www.tes.co.uk/teaching-resource/maths-relay-races-problem-solving-puzzles-6064073) into our Y7 scheme of work. They have proven to be very popular with the pupils, and we therefore needed some for Y8 as well - so I made some! The instructions give a few ideas that make these run more smoothly! The majority of the problems have been taken from elsewhere so are not all my own work. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Volume and Surface Area Investigation
Owen134866Owen134866

Volume and Surface Area Investigation

(1)
Pupils investigate what happens when the increase one of the dimensions of a cuboid by 1 unit repeatedly, and plot their results on a graph. They then try to explain their findings. Can be extended to Surface Area as well. If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Completing the Square
Owen134866Owen134866

Completing the Square

(2)
2 lesson sequence on Completing the Square. The first lesson pupils are introduced to the pattern and how to rewrite expressions under various conditions. The second lesson pupils actually use the process to solve equations. This has been made to go with our IGCSE textbooks but I imagine most courses structure it in a similar way! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Math Further Pure 2 - Set of lesson powerpoints
Owen134866Owen134866

Math Further Pure 2 - Set of lesson powerpoints

(1)
Powerpoints and worksheets (good as unit tests) for the entire FP2 course, in a similar style to my other A-level stuff. Made for the Edexcel Pearson books but can probably be adapted for other courses. There is a simple geogebra file that goes with the Further Complex numbers PPT, but you'll have to edit the hyperlink! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here (There is a lot of A-level work!) :)
Interpreting Unusual Diagrams
Owen134866Owen134866

Interpreting Unusual Diagrams

(3)
Quite a varied selection of Diagrams for pupils to try and interpret and draw conclusions from. A bit more interesting than the standard Bar/Line/Pie Chart or Pictogram lesson! If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on TES! :)
Scatter Graphs
Owen134866Owen134866

Scatter Graphs

(1)
Powerpoint and worksheet on plotting Scatter Graphs, identifying correlation and using lines of best fit. The data on the sheet has come from somewhere else but I'm not sure exactly where from! You will need to write over some of the slides... If you like this resource then please check out my other stuff on here!
