This digital resource consists of 21 interactive slides designed to introduce plot, plot sequencing and plot diagrams. Students will be presented with several versions of Freytag’s Pyramid and expected to drag and drop text boxes matching them with their appropriate place on a plot diagram. Students will also engage with five short stories, again, sequencing their plots on a plot diagram. Students are given the chance to define plot in their own words and complete two short stories. The repetitive, interactive practice helps to consolidate the concept of plot for students. Linguistic devices poster & worksheet with examples and activities

(0)
This document includes a two-page poster with 18 of the most commonly used linguistic devices including a definition and statement of effect or purpose and a worksheet with examples and activities to assist understanding and retention. When teaching linguistic devices I have been struck by how quickly students forget them and / or mix them up. Often they are able to name the devices but are not as able to grasp the intended use or effect on the reader. For that reason I have found it useful to have a poster on the wall covering the main devices and to reinforce understanding with activities such as the ones here. The first activity is one where students are given the device name and have to provide a definition and statement of effect / purpose, together with an example. The second activity is one where students are given a definition and have to match that with the appropriate name from a box below. The third activity similarly has students matching an example of the device in use with the appropriate name. At the end of the document there is also a list of sample sentence stems which students can use when performing analysis. I am always happy to receive feedback as to how these materials worked for you. If you have any questions or problems with the materials please let me know and I will seek to address them as soon as possible. All materials are proofread twice but if you do come across any mistakes or typos just leave a comment so I can amend and update. Thanks.
