It outlines the evolution of the holiday, beginning as an observance of George Washington’s birthday on February 22nd and later encompassing Abraham Lincoln’s birthday on February 12th. The content explains how Congress, in the late 1960s, consolidated the celebration to recognize both presidents, as well as all past U.S. presidents, by moving the official observance to the third Monday in February. Accompanied by illustrations of Washington and Lincoln, the worksheet presents the holiday as a time to honor the legacy of these leaders and their contributions to the nation’s history.
