This single phonics pack focuses on initial consonant blend ‘pl’ CCVC words. As with the other consonant blends packs: it is child-centred child-friendly and a step up from CVC and CCV to Phase 4: Letters and Sounds Phonics. Aimed at: Early Years and keystage 1, SEND and ESL/EFL students. It is an addition to my other resources on initial consonant blends. This pack contains: Flexible Lesson Plan with learning objectives, lesson starter, main activities and plenary - You can choose which parts are relevant to your class. PowerPoint slides are referred to in the plan. PowerPoint Presentation 1 (30 Slides)- includes explanation of initial blend, CCVC words and whole class activities to prepare children for their independent activities. PowerPoint Phoneme Presentation - Optional (Use as reference - some children may still be struggling with segmenting/blending) - I have listed all the CCVC words and the units of sound above the fingers so that children can see and hear the separate phonemes (with pictures) - extension some children may be able to give you other meaning for the words in a sentence. I have highlighed that ‘plot’ and ‘plain’ have different meanings. Encourage children to make simple sentences with the words to understand its meaning and distinguish between nouns, verbs or adjectives. Flashcards and words with and without sound buttons and lines. This product relates to counting activities, missing numbers (writing in words and figures) and finding more or fewer. Aimed at: Pre-K/K As you play slides 3 to 4 the children count aloud the numbers. Slide 3 is from 1 to 10 and Slide 4 from 11 to 20. You have the option of using Slides 5 to 26 for more counting from 0 to 20. It is a 70 slide PowerPoint presentation which includes the following whole class activities: • General counting 0 to 20. • Counting leprechaun pictures • Working out ‘How many more…?’ • Working out ‘How many fewer…?’ • Counting pots of gold and then saying which has more gold coins • Differentiated missing numbers grids 1 to 10, 1 to 15, 1 to 30. <strong>Independent Follow-up Work</strong> There are 4 activity tasks for the students to undertake. Activity Sheet 1 (x22)– Students read the number in the circle and then cut out that number of gold coins. They then tick which pot has more coins. Count and color activity (x3)– More counting practice – there are too many counters in each grid. The students read the digit in the green box and then color in the required number of coins to match the digit. Missing Numbers and Words (x2) – numbers 1 to 10 grid, 1 to 15 grid and for the more able 1 to 30 grid with missing numbers to fill in. Students write in the missing numbers in the grid. When they have done this, they then write the numbers that are missing in words. Worksheets (x3) on How many more…? - Students work out the answers to the tasks. Worksheets (x3) on How many fewer…? – Students work out the answers to the tasks and then there is a challenge which is to write a subtraction sentence. There is an example of this on Slide 58. Aimed at: Foundation stage and Keystage 1, SEND and ESL/EFL students. It is an addition to my other resources on initial consonant blends. This pack contains: Flexible Lesson Plan with learning objectives, lesson starter, main activities and plenary - You can choose which parts are relevant to your class. PowerPoint slides are referred to in the plan. Because the lesson plan is flexible you can choose a 15 min phonic input, 30 mins or an hour phonics input. PowerPoint Presentation 1 (29 Slides)- includes explanation of initial blend, CCVC words and whole class activities to prepare children for their independent activities. It also explains meanings of words through pictures. PowerPoint Phoneme Presentation (17 Slides)- Optional (Use as reference - some children may still be struggling with segmenting/blending) - I have listed all the CCVC words (13) and the units of sound above the fingers so that children can see and hear the separate phonemes (with pictures) - extension some children may be able to give you other meaning for the words in a sentence. Worksheet 2 - Unscrambling the words and writing them opposite each picture, Writing a sentence for each of the 4 words. Alphabet resource for display and alphabet activities. This resource contains the following:- Teacher’s Notes • Aa to Zz frieze showing pictures beginning with initial letter. Laminate and punch holes and thread through with a string to hang around the classroom or peg onto a washing line across a wall/classroom. Aa – Zz word strips and related pictures • Laminate and cut out • Can be used as an extension activity. Children trace round the initial dotted letter which shows a picture for that letter. Alphabet cards • Alphabet cards should be printed off twice, laminated and cut out. • Children can play alphabet snap • Other games – lay out 4 or 5 letters in alphabetical order ,e.g. k, l, m, n, o, cover them over. Take a letter away without the children seeing and ask what letter is missing. • Matching lower case to upper case letters activity. Practise writing frames using Sassoon dotted font • These are in upper and lower cases. Each one should be laminated. • After focussing on e.g. ‘t’, children can practise writing over the dots and then without the dots as handwriting exercises. Alphabet Mat Practise (trace over dotted letters) Photocopy these and laminate • Children can keep it in their trays for reference; • can practise their handwriting if they finish their work early or for those children who need to practise fine motor skills. Practise writing frames using Sassoon dotted font • These are in upper and lower cases. Each one should be laminated. • After focussing on e.g. ‘t’, children can practise writing over the dots and then without the dots as handwriting exercises. Alphabet Mat • Can be laminated and blu tac to the wall in the writing/reading/book corner. • Can be used to assess a child’s phonic progress. Alphabet Pictures Games/Assessment • The pictures represent the start of a letter e.g. ‘g’ for grasshopper. The pictures are not in alphabetical order so that you have to look for the picture. • Enlarge the A4 size sheet to A3 and the sheet with the alphabet tiles. • Laminate the Alphabet Pictures grid • Laminate the Alphabet sheet then cut out each letter for use with Alphabet Pictures grid. • Children can play in pairs. A timer can be set so that children have a limited time to place the letter on the correct picture. • Players take turns to ask his/her partner to find the picture beginning with, e.g. ‘s’. The player picks out one of the letters and places it over the correct picture sound on the Alphabet Picture Mat. Simpson and his donkey with factsheets and worksheets. This is a PowerPoint presentation on one of the most well-known ANZAC, John Simpson Kirkpatrick and his donkey. It is a resource linked to ANZAC Day and bravery. **This product has been updated with teacher notes on suggested activities, worksheets and black and white pictures for more initial consonant blend activities. ** There are 3 sets of pictures for each initial consonant blend. One set has highlighted initial blends. Optional: Print out onto card paper/good quality paper, laminate and cut out the pictures and words. Content: Teacher Notes on suggested activities 3 Sets of initial consonant blend pictures with words (one set has highlighted initial blends) 64 black and white pictures relating to initial consonant blends 3 Worksheets - children trace over initial blends and then write in the correct blends to finish incomplete words. 2 Cut/paste worksheet activities - children trace over blends and then write in correct blends to finish incomplete words. Lastly, they cut out the pictures and glue to match the correct completed words. Other Suggested Activities: Pictures only - Mix up different pictures and ask students to find the picture that starts with, e.g. br. Words only - Mix up different words and ask students to sound out the word and/or draw a picture for it. Extension - write sentences. Pictures and words - Mix up different pictures and words for students to match up correctly. Make a word wall using the initial highlighted words as a visual reminder. With the black and white pictures, you can reduce on the copier or leave as is to glue into workbooks. Leave out some words for the children to find the correct word to match the picture in their workbooks. As an extension they can write a sentence using that word. This pack relates to euros and euro cents currency. Updated 17 May 2022 to include two versions of the original Presentation and worksheets showing the different ways euros/cents are written. Aimed at KS1/Kindergarten/Grade 1 and ESL/EFL students. The presentation can be used as follow-up to the first pack and builds upon the skills students have learnt previously. It still uses a step-by-step approach to teaching money but using higher value coins. This pack contains: <strong>A comprehensive PowerPoint Presentation (53 Slides) - divided into convenient sections. </strong> 1.Reviewing coins and their values, money exchange and using the 50c, €1 and €2 coins. 2. Using €1 and €2 euro coins. Using combination of coins to equal the value of the one euro and two euro coins. 3. Using euros and cents together - this is explained in the presentation with various whole class activities 4. Giving change from €1 and € 2 euro coins. The Presentation also includes whole class activities and different strategies students can use to work out money problems. Students also learn to change, e.g. 125 cents to €1.25/1,25€. **4 Flexible Lesson Plans - contains objectives, plenaries and main lesson. PowerPoint Slides are referred to in the lesson plans. ** Some preparation is required: Laminate the coin sheets, coin cards and price tags for practical tasks at tables. <strong>Worksheets</strong> <strong>Lesson 1</strong> - Adding up combinations of euro coins (2 worksheets). At the Mall (2 worksheets) - adding two items. Extension adding three items. <strong>Lesson 2</strong> - You will need the coin sheets or you can use plastic euro money. Students draw or use the laminated coins to work out different combination of coins that equal €1. Challenge: Different combination of coins that equal two euros. This resource material is for countries using the euro currency: euros and euro cents. Aimed at KS1/Kindergarten/Grade 1 and ESL/EFL students. Updated on 17 May, 2022 to include different ways the euros/cents are written. There are now three versions which you can choose to download. The presentation is a step-by-step approach to teaching euros/cents. <strong>This pack contains:</strong> A comprehensive PowerPoint Presentation (46 Slides) - divided into convenient sections. Identifying and describing coins and their value Adding up cents and adding prices of items Looking at combination of coins and comparing/matching coins of equivalent value, e.g. five 1 cents is worth the same as a 5 cent coin. Giving change - working out how much change you would get from 5c, 10c, and 20c. The Presentation also includes whole class activities and different strategies students can use to work out money problems. There is a separate Presentation on general introduction and a list of countries that use euros as their currency. 4 Flexible Lesson Plans - contains objectives, plenaries and main lesson. PowerPoint slides are referred to in the lesson plans. ** Worksheets ** <strong>Lesson 1</strong> - Matching each coin to its value - There are two sets of activities. (1) Write the value opposite the coin and practise writing the euro signs. (2) Cut and paste each coin to the correct value shown. <strong>Lesson 2</strong> - Let’s Go Shopping (1) - adding two items together Let’s Go Shopping (2) - adding three items together Optional cut and paste Match up Money Bags activity - Students add the prices of the pictures together to get the total and then match the bag of 1 cent coins to the correct sum. <strong>Lesson 3</strong> - 4 Worksheets called Euro Money Bags 1, 2, 3, and 4. This is an extra resource on the Euro currency coins 1c, 2c, 5c, 10c, 20c, 50c, 1 euro and 2 euro coins. Updated 17 May 2022 include versions 2 an 3 reflecting how the euro/cents are written, e.g. €2.25 or 2,25€ and cents written as ‘c’. Aimed at: KS1 students learning about the euro/cents, EFL/ESL students The worksheets are in colour and black and white. ANSWERS are provided where appropriate. Each of the four worksheets contain a variety of tasks for students to complete on the topic of buying school stationery. Worksheet 1 - Students look at the pictures and price of each item and then work out how much two items of school supplies cost. Two questions at the bottom: Which student spent the most? Which student spent the least amount of money? Worksheet 2 - This worksheet is similar to the above except students add three items of stationery together. Worksheet 3 - Students answer 6 questions about the items, e.g. Which item is the most expensive? How much less does the eraser cost than the calculator? etc. The next task is to write the new price for each item which has risen by 10 cents. Worksheet 4 - The first task is to write the new price of the items which have risen by 20 euro cents. Second task - to add up 3 items of stationery at the new price. Worksheet 5 - Biggest Euro Sale Now On! - Students reduce the price of each item by 11 cents. They then recalculate the items of stationery bought. Additional worksheets: Drawing coins to match the price tags - students use the fewest number of coins as many times as they can. Add up the coins and write the total on the price tag for each object shown. Challenge: Students add up all the prices on the tags and write the total amount of money spent. Preparation: Print onto card paper and laminate the bingo cards. Laminate both sets of picture cards and cut out. Play bingo as a whole class or children play in smaller groups. Play ‘Snap!’ Matching card game - - Lay out, say, 10 sets of matching cards face down on the table - players take turns to turn over two cards. If two cards match, he or she keeps the cards. If the two cards do not match the cards are placed put back again. The player with the most matching cards is the winner. Other uses: Create a minibeasts word wall - reprint the call-out cards and picture cards for a wall display. This resource relates to matching a mixture of CVC words to pictures. Learning aims: To read and match CVC words to pictures by segmenting and blending. There are two parts to this resource: 1. Play as a game to practise blending and segmenting; 2. For the teacher to assess children's progress in reading CVC words. This product contains: - Teachers' Notes on suggested activities - 8 phonic CVC Phonic Boards 1 to 8 containing clipart pictures - 72 word cards - 24 alien words/pseudo-words - 8 Phonic CVC Screening Check Sheets The boards are colour-coded with the word cards. On each board there are 9 cvc pictures and 3 alien pictures. There are 9 real word cards and 3 alien/pseudo-words for each picture board. Learn to read consonant, vowel, consonant(cvc) words via games - children choose any board number (Board 1 to Board 8) which are colour-coded with the word cards, e.g. Board 1 (yellow) with yellow word cards. H/she chooses a board and read the word on the card and cover the picture that matches the word. The alien pictures can be covered with any of the pseudo-word cards. Children can play in twos/threes - choose the colour of their boards and word cards. Shuffle the set of word cards and lay them face down on the table. They take turns turning over a card. If a card matches their board colour, s/he reads the word and covers the picture for that word. If the colour does not match or s/he cannot read the word, the word card is put back face down on the table. Using the word cards only - shuffle a selection of cards and the child reads as many words as s/he can. Additional use to check progress: For the teacher/assistant - Optional 8 Phonics screening check sheets - On each sheet there is a list of words that correspond to the set of word cards.
