This is a fun matching hands-on activity working with 2D shapes. Aimed at: Early Years/Year 1, SEN and children learning English. <strong>Content:</strong> Ten sets of Shape Match Mats – Set 1 to Set 12 Ten sets of Shape Cards – Set 1 to Set 12 Labels for shapes Shapes used: square, circle, triangle, rectangle, oval, pentagon, diamond/rhombus, heart, star, crescent and trapezium shape. The mats are whole page landscape and should be printed onto card and laminated. Enlarge to A3 and get children to work in pairs to match the shapes. Each mat displays various shapes in different positions, size and colour. For each mat there are sets of shapes which should be printed onto card or good quality paper and then cut out ready for the children to start the matching activity. The cut out shapes are placed on top of the correct shapes shown on the Shape Mat. The shape, colour and size should match. More than one shape card can be placed on top of a shape. This is an opportunity for children to count the number of matching shapes, describe colours and shapes. Included are shape labels - you may want to use these to revise shapes with the children. I keep the numbered sets together so that they do not get mixed up, i.e. Set 1 Shape Cards stored away with Shape Match Mat 1; Set 2 Shape Cards kept with Shape Match Mat 2 etc. Please have a look at the preview pane. This resource relates to counting 2D shapes of different colours. It is a 3-in-1 product that covers the early learning of colours, shapes and basic counting up to 10. Each page contains the same shapes but they are different colours. An ideal resource for children to practise colour recognition, 2D shapes and counting. Ideally, each sheet should be laminated and used with a dry-erase pen. Children count the shapes that are the same colour and then write the number in the space provided. Shapes used are: circle, square, triangle, rectangle, diamond/rhombus and pentagon. <strong>Extension opportunity:</strong> Some children can count beyond 10 and even 20 in Reception and Year 1, so once they have written down the number of shapes that are the same colours, they can then add the two numbers together to find the total number of, e.g., squares. A lovely addition to work on weather and seasons. The worksheets contain facts about snow, sleet and hail which the children will enjoy reading about. All the worksheets are on PPT and pdf. So you can pre-teach any vocabulary. In the gap-filling tasks, students work in pairs and have to work together to complete their respective worksheets. <strong>This resource comprises:</strong> • two non-fiction reading comprehensions plus questions. • two gap-filling exercises – Pair work collaboration is required. <strong>How we get snow and sleet - Reading comprehension</strong> Students read the text and answer 5 questions. They look for the answers in the text, tick correct statements and write full answers. Gap-filling activity – Students work in pairs to complete the missing information in Worksheet A and Worksheet B. Partner A will have worksheet A and Partner B will have worksheet B. In order to complete their worksheets, the students will have to read together to fill in the missing words on their respective worksheets. <strong>How we get hail - Reading comprehension</Strong> Students read the text and answer 5 questions. Students are required to look for the answers in the text, tick true or false statements and say why, write full answers and make a list. Gap-filling activity – Students work in pairs to complete the missing information in Worksheet A and Worksheet B. As above, Partner A will have worksheet A and Partner B will have worksheet B. This product is on the topic of All About Me. Aimed at: Reception/Year1 and Year 2. Use for ESL/EFL students for speaking about themselves and about other people. <strong>Content:</strong> • Teacher Notes (2 pages) • 42 Question Cards (colour and plain background) – Laminate and cut out • Rules for whole class activities using the question cards • Digit cards 1 – 32 (patterned and plain): Laminate and cut out • Worksheet (1 page) • Blank question and digit cards for your use **The question cards can be used in various ways. ** This is option 2. Arrange students in a semi-circle. Whole class activity – Laminate and cut out the flashcard numbers and randomly hand them out to the students. Print, laminate and cut out the question cards and place a selection in the centre. You select a question card and then to choose a student to answer the question, say ‘I want whoever has number 7 to answer the question.’ The student that has card number 7 answers the question. If you would like other students to answer the same question, then just say e.g. ‘I want whoever has card number, e.g. 23, to answer the same question.’ Depending on timing, you can decide on how many questions to select from the pack. Working in Pairs or small groups Students shuffle some question cards and lay them face down on the table. They take turns to turn over a card and ask each other questions. To make this a practical lesson together with the worksheets, you can set out base 10 towers or dienes, unifix cubes or other objects to help students set out tens and ones/units columns and then complete the worksheets. Content: • Worksheets (A) to (I): Write the number the base 10 tower blocks represent • Worksheets 1 to 8: Cut/paste base 10 tower blocks activity • Worksheets 1 to 6: Describing numbers This product contains three different activities relating to tens and ones. Worksheets (A) to (I): Students work out what number the base 10 towers represent and then write the number in the circle. Worksheets 1 to 8: This is a cut and paste activity. This product contains a set of worksheets relating to place value: tens and ones - No regrouping. Aimed at: Year 1/Year 2; SEN If your pupils are still struggling with the concept of partitioning/splitting numbers into tens and ones and adding and subtracting mentally, then this resource provides hands-on activity. Once the pupils have grasped the basic, they can then match the tens and ones buttons to base 10 blocks. Content: Worksheets (x4) - Understanding numbers. Pupils count the buttons and draw around 10 and count on the ones. They write the number and partition it following the example on the worksheet. E.g Count 12, circle 10 buttons - write 10 and 2 and show that it is 1 ten and 2 ones. Addition of two-digit numbers worksheets (x5) : The first page shows pupils an example (add the tens and then the ones) and then they complete the two sums. The remaining 4 worksheets require the pupils to cut and paste tens and ones to match the equations and then solve it. Subtraction of two-digit numbers worksheets (x4 : The first worksheets explains that the pupils need to take away the tens and then the ones. E.g. 15 - 11 = Pupils cut and paste tens and ones for the first number only. Then they look at the second number ‘11’ and cross out the tens and then the ones. These reading comprehension worksheet and activities can be used in the lead up to St Patrick’s Day or for your myths/legends unit. Students can pair up for reading the passages. This product contains two reading passages and a dedicated worksheet on homonyms. Worksheet on homophones: Section A: 7 sentences - students choose and write in the correct word so that the sentence makes sense. Section B: The words that are not used in Section A, students make up 7 sentences of their own. E.g. Section A - Saint Patrick is the patron saint of ___________. (Island/Ireland) Section B - 'Island ’ would be incorrect if used in the above sentence, so in this section students make up a sentence with ‘island’. Text 1: The Evil Black Pig of Monaghan (St Patrick is challenged to get rid of the pig which causes fear and destruction in the village) contains 4 paragraphs Sections A to D. Students can work in pairs to read the story and then answer the 12 questions. Tasks included: Searching for answers in the text, gap filling, multiple choice, adding paragraph headings, word work such as finding a compound word, dictionary work. This resource focuses on the legend of Saint Patrick and myths. The PowerPoint Presentation includes whole class activities and there are questions at the end of the presentation. Children are encouraged to participate in discussion about the different myths and legends in relation to St Patrick/St Patrick’s Day. The resource contains:- 32 Slides PowerPoint Presentation Flexible detailed lesson plans covering 2 lessons (includes learning objectives and plenaries/closing session). Each PowerPoint slide is referred to in the lesson plans. Lesson 1: Children link the shamrock St Patrick is holding to Irish myths, including leprechaun costumes that they might see on St Patrick’s Day celebrations. Learn the difference between myths and legends. They look at mythical beasts and describing words and phrases. Differentiated worksheets - With support - LA draw their own picture of Cyclops and label the parts with adjectives. MA/HA - Draw own picture of Cyclops or create their own mythical creature and label it with adjectives and and use simple sentences to describe in more detail, e.g. its body was as big as a house. This is a St David’s Day theme product which contains five different maths activities. Optional preparation: You can cut out the puzzle pieces and have children assemble them or get the children to cut out the sheets of puzzle pieces and they can assemble and glue onto a separate sheet of paper or into their workbooks. Content: Differentiated puzzle pieces for children to match up numbers 1 to 10 and 11 to 20. The puzzles are in colour and b/w. Match up numbered gold coins with a picture of a dragon in the centre by drawing lines to the correct tens frame or twenty frame. Count gold coins and draw line to match with the tens frames. Bar Chart Worksheet in colour/b&w with differentiated questions: Worksheet 1 with 8 questions and Worksheet 2 with 11 questions (with Answer Sheets). Pictures: dragon, daffodils, leek and traditional Welsh black hat. Cut/Paste Picture Patterns Activity with Answer Sheet - children the picture(s) that comes next in the sequence. They are also given the opportunity to create their own picture patterns. Differentiated Missing Numbers Worksheets - Worksheet 1 children count the daffodils to find the missing number; Worksheet 2 for more able children- counting on to work out the missing number in each sum.
