This is a standalone resource for whole lesson on holidays for GCSE. The worksheet focuses on honing reading skills and technique, recycling key vocabulary and translation on this topic. Knowledge of holidays in the present and past tense required. Activities: Decode the questions on which the reading comprehension will be based; Read three short texts about holiday preferences & where the speaker went last year; Revisit the questions decoded in (1) and decide ‘who says what?’, highlighting the evidence in the text as pupils decide; A ‘vocabulary search’ of English words/phrases from the texts; Decoding French sentences which recycle the vocabulary above (translation into English); Translation into French - a reformulation task revisiting all the structures and vocabulary which have been seen in this resource. The questions cover all (I)GCSE tenses and tricky aspects of adjective agreement. Pupils will be able to revise verb formation & writing accuracy with this resource. There are lots of useful phrases to help with describing the photo itself, as well as lots of complex language and Grade 8 constructions for pupils to include. There is a speaking mat for revision and a support sheets with: phrases to introduce a photo, past tense expressions, weather phrases, using the gerund, complex constructions to include, useful connectives, opinion phrases etc. My own pupils have found this very useful and it provides an excellent scaffold for them producing high quality work.
